NSW Respiratory Surveillance Report (week ending 7 March 2026). Headline states influenza, COVID-19 and RSV are all at low activity levels. Summary notes influenza and COVID-19 remain low while RSV has been increasing but overall activity is still low. Measles notifications have increased. The report outlines monitoring methods including PHREDSS, wastewater surveillance, whole genome sequencing, sentinel laboratories and aged-care outbreak monitoring. It also notes public registration of positive rapid antigen tests in NSW ended on 30 September 2023.

We have an update on Lizzo, the massive 695g bobtail we posted about earlier who was rescued during the black walks from Alison Baird Reserve in Kenwick. On Sunday she gave birth to a massive 150g baby! That's huge for a newborn bobtail - normally they're around 80-100g. Lizzo’s exceptional condition and this big, strong baby are clear signs of her robust pre-fire health, thanks to the reserve’s rich biodiversity, abundant food from its rare plants, and vital wetlands. As bobtails are super vulnerable in bushfires, her survival and successful motherhood are nothing short of amazing. Congratulations to Lizzo and her beautiful, chunky little one! This new life is a powerful symbol of resilience and hope for the eventual recovery and repopulation of this special reserve.
