Played through the game three times now, got all achievements and a pretty good speedrun time. Still don't really like it, but I think it's fair to say I gave it enough chances. In conclusion: Grace's part is even better on insanity difficulty and should've been a whole game on it's own.

Can you believe the two best games of all time - according to user score - were released back-to-back just recently? Not even twelve month apart. Wow, what are the chances?!

At first I found myself wishing to finally play Leon. The three hour segment after arriving in Raccoon City was absolutely dreary though, felt like the worst parts of a 360-era military shooter. Why oh why didnβt they settle for one unified direction, one vision, while developing this?

Finished Resident Evil: Requiem to find myself disappointed - and shocked - critics ate this one up. Itβs a fragmented mess, multiple ideas for Resident Evil games sewn together. The resulting reanimated corpse doesnβt even need a shotgun blast to the head because itβs falling apart on itβs own.

Of course you can't talk about this without mentioning the anime he directed a few years ago which maybe three people watched - also it sucked a bit.

I know they announced a sequel to Automata just recently, but it's hilarious that Square Enix underutilized Yoko Taro for a whole decade and now he's writing *Evangelion*

Good lord, a few years ago this studio was basically beyond all criticism. One of gaming's sacred cows. *The* example how to produce titles faster AND cheaper. The last few years were mixed/poor and now this? How the mighty have fallen.

consider my feedback: i loved working at @larianstudios.com until AI. reconsider and change your direction, like, yesterday. show your employees some respect. they are world-class & do not need AI assistance to come up with amazing ideas.

If there's one thing you can say about Larian, it's that they listen to their audience. I really hope the backlash today demonstrates to them a love for what they do and how they have done it β and that it makes them reconsider this road they're going down with generative AI.

"[...] the CEO says the technology hasnβt led to big gains in efficiency" - it's always the same and if you "just" use AI for placeholder text and art in time this makes your product worse. Even creative people *will* get sloppy when they start using these tools. Everything's going down the drain.

Square Enix has definitely been mismanaged for years - constantly overestimating profits, closing and selling studios, firing good people and now relying mostly on AI for QA - but no one should listen to shareholders demanding exponential growth. They don't need even more business perspectives.

The original Let It Die was famous for its absolutely amazing soundtrack. Akira Yamaoka went and got in touch with a HUNDRED of his favourite indie bands and commissioned each to do a track named 'let it die'. The result was borderline mystical.
They're AI-generating the music here.
Fuck that.

I knew my favorite Final Fantasy wouldn't make the feminist cut - only one out of two women passes the bechdel test and the one who does is missing from the party for half the game - but seeing it at the very bottom is pretty disenchanting.

Rewatched the Chainsaw Man-Movie after seeing it at the premiere in Tokyo last month and it cemented itself as one of my favorite animated films ever. Havenβt stopped thinking about it, just like the last Fujimoto adaption. Now praying for a surprise βGoodbye, Eriβ release. Never stop creating.

Most experts acknowledge that a takeover by artificial intelligence is coming for the video game industry within the next five years, and executives have already started preparing to restructure their companies in anticipation.
After all, it was one of the first sectors to deploy A.I. programming in the 1980s, with the four ghosts who chase Pac-Man each responding differently to the player's real-time movements.
This is an insane thing to write about game development. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/28/a...

I think Tim Rogers' breakdown of what he called the trinket conundrum in FF7 Remake really stuck with me. Big dramatic moments in games are consistently ruined pacing wise because the instant I get control I find myself spinning the camera and hitting corners to find items and doodads I don't need

After 120 hours I've finally seen all 100 endings of 'The Hundred Line -Last Defense Academy-'. Without a doubt a narrative unicorn the likes of which we probably won't ever see again. A carefully crafted marvel and absolutely my GotY. Visual novels are alive and well.
