MPs in the north-east, Mary Kelly Foy and Grahame Morris said people were being moved to already very deprived communities with no additional support provided.

Durham County Council said people had been moved to the area from London without their knowledge.

The movement of homeless families, who are disproportionately from ethnic minority backgrounds, into largely white towns, has raised concerns.

@runnymedetrust.bsky.social CEO Shabna Begum called the practice “social cleansing” and “racialised, coercive displacement”.
