Yeah, the election has changed the outlook in all of East Asia. I've wanted to change my citizenship for a while, and that's not possible in Taiwan without resigning your current citizenship, becoming stateless, and then applying. It's also become a lot more dangerous generally to be here, so. 😭

Welp. The election went almost as shit as it possibly could.

Can't do much about that in particular, but I am going to do something: get citizenship elsewhere. It means I have to leave Taiwan, but American citizenship is such a liability that I feel like I have no choice.

I haven't read Hanzo's short story, but from what I heard it's fairly in line with the other short stories: fairly general, with only small steps forward in terms of character development and the overall plot. The new heroes are all alright, both in-game and backstory-wise.

One of my most acute regrets these days is getting a degree in political science. Not only is it a useless degree unless you go on to get a master's or PhD or whatever, but it also gifted me the ability to see into the dark heart of a future that's all too probable. Not inevitable. But probable.

If things do get better, it's hard to see how it'll happen within my lifetime. Things like autocracy and authoritarianism tend to need the efforts of generations to break down, and it's sad because for a while it felt like we were near the end of the process, not in the middle, or near the start.

--it's getting hard to distinguish if good things ever actually did outnumber the bad things, or if the bad things were always lurking in the background, getting ready.

I just really want to go back to about 2008-2016 and warn myself not to expect things to stay the same and/or get better.

--generally I'm just tired of being absolutely powerless to change anything substantial or important yet being informed about it daily.

I'm also tired of living in a world where bad things just--pile up continuously. I think back to my youth when it seemed good things outweighed the bad, but--

Like, I try to remember that good things are happening (I'm generally relieved about the election results in the UK and France, for example) and I try to remember that things have been this bad or worse before (though not necessarily this bad in specific places, siiigh) but--

ngl, I've been inactive mostly because I reached a limit on how much bad news/uncertainty/hatred there is in the news and on the timeline. I feel like I'm standing in a crowded room with my eyes shut and hands over my ears; not because I've given up, but because I've seen and heard so, SO much.
