But what will I assign?!?! π
I'm rather proud of a student who asked in their email "Is this what @profsaunders.bsky.social meant in [her 2017 article] "No Substitute For Experience?"
I have received 13 emails from students asking if we could discuss Iran today in U.S. Foreign Policy. I must give thanks to @profsaunders.bsky.social for her work to navigate this session. It's rather fortuitous that we were scheduled to discuss chapters of her 2011 book "Leaders at War."
We watched and discussed Bad Bunny's halftime performance in my US foreign policy course, and something happened that I doubt has ever happened... like EVER!
Student A: I was happy when the camera showed Ricky Martin.
Student B: The lead singer of Coldplay?

Bless the Olympians
Bless these Olympians for having such courage and using these moments in such lovely fashion
#BadBunny's performers continued to dance and party outside the stadium after the #SuperBowl #HalftimeShow
Never wanted to be a loser more in my life
So we're doing well?

Pope Leoβs top U.S. ally β Cardinal Joseph Tobin β calls on Congress to defund ICE.
These behaviors aren't unprecedented. But dammit, I reckon they might be the horrifying window of opportunity needed to make change. www.duckofminerva.com/2020/05/we-a...
I wrote this piece ~6 years ago. Sadly, the umbrella over those who navigate life with some measure of daily fear has only expanded. The lack of adherence to rules and norms is not new to Indigenous, Black, Brown, and/or Queer folks. But we didn't want anyone to have to join us under here.
Tomorrow's my political violence class is NOT gonna reflect my syllabus. I can't always shift to discuss current events, but I'd be a complete dick not to offer my students space and guide them through a discussion tying Minneapolis' prior civilian killings with the most recent killings.
I've not been radicalized. I'm Black.
And people thought I was being a bit ridiculous by deciding to carry my passport card on my person at all times. It won't stop me from getting shot, but maybe it'll ensure I get home in a few days vice weeks.
Saying the officer who committed murder is a murderer is dangerous, but it's OK to claim that his victim was a domestic terrorist who literally ran him over.
The only thing cops are loyal to is cops. Not to the public, not to the law, not to public safety or anything like that. The only thing they care about is advancing their own protections and budgets, at the cost of the rest of society. And you see what happens to βgood copsβ who break the Blue Wall.
I saw this video of a Vietnam vet in the fur coat yelling at ICE and thought to myself, "this is missing something," before I realized, "Ah, of course, the Ether instrumental. It's so obvious."
A reason Black people told everyone to take police shootings seriously is because government sanctioned violence doesnβt occur in isolation. Every justification/defense emboldens them and pushes them towards widespread sanctioned violence knowing society will justify its use no matter how egregious.
If you can stomach it, this is an excellent analysis of video available of the murder of Renee Good. It is "at odds" with the Trump version! Extremely "at odds," you might say, "disproves" or "undermines," or "shows they are lying."

Happy new year to you and yours, Joel!
Rather than grumble about those who've joined new gyms or returned to the gym as the new year begins, how about minding your business and remaining silent? But if you simply MUST do something, a nod of recognition and carrying on with your own workout goes a long way.
I promise that paying for the overnight garage charges and the rideshare car home is worth it.
Be safe and be well out there, y'all.
Same!
Oh for sure!
Sometimes I forget that this is what really matters when it comes to teaching these humans who are learning to become adults. π₯Ή
You're welcome. Happy Thanksgiving, y'all!
A large (maybe 3 feet wide by 5 feet tall) sign on the end of a row of bookshelves that tells the βaddressβ of books that have sensitive content.
Sometimes I think itβs going to be the librarians who will save us all.
