Through the Adolf Coors Foundation, the Coors family underwrote a variety of right-wing causes and organizations over the years statements emanated from the family suggesting a dark agenda may have motivated its activism. For instance, William Coors, one of the foundation's principles, told a group of African-American business people in a 1984 speech, "One of the best things they slave traders did for you is to drag your ancestors over here in chains."
