Dreesen and Freund, whose contracts also expire in 2027, have a very good chance of being extended. Eberl, however, is once again under pressure. His future is to be decided at the supervisory board meeting in mid-August.
[@_kochmaximilian, @Abendzeitung]
Should Eberl's contract not be extended, CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen and sporting director Christoph Freund would likely assume his duties. No new appointments are currently planned.
However, the club's bosses feel a lack of genuine cooperation. Internally, it is regularly heard that there are different factions within the club – and that could jeopardize sporting success in the long run.
On the plus side, Eberl has made some good decisions since taking office in March 2024: the signing of Kompany, for example, as well as the transfers of Michael Olise, Luis Díaz, and Jonathan Tah.
Furthermore, it is said internally that Eberl does not negotiate as hard as Rummenigge and Hoeneß used to, which ultimately costs Bayern a significant amount of money
Another point of criticism: there's no genuine relationship of trust between Eberl and the club's powerful figures on the supervisory board. Eberl sometimes fails to engage with the board and informs them too late. He is accused of acting unilaterally.
Internally, Eberl is accused, among other things, of spending too much money on contract extensions and signing fees. Players and agents have been raking in the cash at FC Bayern for years.
Max Eberl's work is still viewed critically by some of the higher-ups. So critically, in fact, that a contract extension is uncertain and a separation is possible. Eberl's contract expires in June 2027.
Southampton are happy with Daniel Peretz and are considering signing him permanently. Bayern are looking to sell him and Alexander Nübel this summer [@FrankLinkesch, @kicker]
Jamal Musiala will sit out at least the Leverkusen game. He hasn't suffered a new injury, it was a stress reaction in his ankle joint. He'll take a break now and then his appearances will continue to be dosed in the coming weeks [@kerry_hau]
The time-off according to @BILD:
• Jonas Urbig: 8-10 days
• Alphonso Davies: around 3 weeks
• Jamal Musiala: a few days
"As soon as incidents are reported, proceedings will be initiated. Should these lead to disciplinary action, it will be published on the UEFA disciplinary website"
UEFA declined to confirm or deny whether an investigation into Joshua Kimmich and Michael Olise's 'intentional' yellow cards will be launched or not, when asked by the German press agency @dpa today
Kimmich on whether his yellow card was intentional: "No. If he managed to keep his cool there wouldn't be a yellow card. I definitely took too long but I didn't want to rush the pass into their press. I think if he doesn't charge, there would be no yellow"
Joshua Kimmich on being suspended in the second leg: "Generally I'm someone who wants to play all games. But due to the result in the first leg, I think that's manageable"
• Sergio Ramos was once banned for two games because he got a yellow card intentionally, is that something that worries you and Olise?
Kimmich: "No, why's that? A yellow card is not punishable. It wasn't intentional"
With Jan-Christian Dreesen and Christoph Freund in the decision-making, the club's bosses believe they would be well-equipped even in the event of Eberl's departure [@cfbayern, @Karlo_Kolumna
Even if the supervisory board decided against extending Max Eberl's contract, they're currently not considering bringing in a replacement. Rumoured names like Markus Krösche are not a topic.
His work with the first team and the Campus, where he has been given more responsibility, is highly valued at the club [@cfbayern, @Karlo_Kolumna]
Christoph Freund's contract also expires in 2027. His future is not decided by the supervisory board, but by the executive board (Dreesen, Eberl & Rouven Kasper). Freund has extremely good prospects of a new contract.
Jan-Christian Dreesen's Bayern contract expires in June 2027. An extension is just a formality. The supervisory board is extremely happy with Dreesen's work. The CEO is currently involved in the talks to extend Harry Kane's contract [@cfbayern, @Karlo_Kolumna]
Eberl's contract situation will be addressed at the next supervisory board meeting in May, before it is placed on the agenda for the following meeting in August, where a final decision will be made
Despite that, There's still no complete relationship of trust between Eberl and higher-ups. Eberl is said to have often involved the board very late in the process. Moreover, he is said to want to push through contract decisions very quickly instead of renegotiating, which often cost the club money
After all, he fulfilled the supervisory board's demands to make the squad smaller and reduce the wage bill while maintaining the sporting success. Vincent Kompany, Luis Díaz, Michael Olise, Jonathan Tah, Jonas Urbig, whom he signed, have all been a success.
So should Eberl's contract not be extended, his confidant's contract will also expire on June 30, 2027.
It may seem surprising from the outside that Eberl is being discussed controversially internally, and that an extension is uncertain.
An indication of the uncertainty is that Eberl would have liked to extend the contract of Nils Schmadtke, whom he brought to the club as head of scouting in 2024, for the long-term. However, the club's decision was to only give Schmadtke another one-year contract.
Max Eberl's Bayern future is more open than initially thought. The chances of a contract extension are currently 50-50. Eberl's current deal expires in June 2027.
Jonas Urbig is suspected to have suffered a concussion. He was very disoriented after the game. He was taken to hospital and is being examined for visual disturbances. Diagnosis is still pending. He's unlikely to be available against Leverkusen. Ulreich is expected to start [@MartinVolkmar]
