What’s Going On With That Michigan Boarding School Report? There is something fishy going on with a state-sponsored investigation of Indigenous boarding schools in Michigan. As one headline put it, “Michigan Spent $1.1M Probing Tribal Boarding Schools Then…

Why did Michigan shelve a report on the state’s history of Indigenous boarding schools after paying more than a million dollars to have the report completed?

I don’t know, but I read the report and have some thoughts.

Instead of banning plagiarism, schools should teach students to plagiarize in ways that are more difficult to detect, that degrade the value of labor, and destroy the environment.

Stories like this show the emptiness of Democrats’ “they should remove their masks” rhetoric. It’s a cancerous organization that they are afraid to cut out.

Democrats are to brave politics what a carrot juice enema is to cancer treatment.

Come on, my Democrats. You may as well say that you’re gonna tell the teacher. Or call your mom.

Grow a goddamn pair, please. Stand for something, please. You can’t get the easy stuff right.

Just abolish ICE.

I want students to learn content, but also wisdom, empathy, &humility, to write from the heart, mind and soul. I want them to learn to move people, and to matter.

That’s why.

I would urge my school to promote itself as the alternative to what’s offered by our soulless corporate AI overlords.

Since the pandemic, we’ve been able to bring in over a million dollars to fund fellowships for undergraduate students to work in historians’ offices across NYS. It’s a labor of love. I wish I could do this work full time.

Not gonna share the video of Republican US Senator Tim Sheehy breaking a protesting Marine's hand, but you can find it on @charlotteclymer.bsky.social's timeline.

I'll just say that in a functional country, Sheehy would be expelled by the Senate.

Democratic Senators should publicly push for that.

Grammarly Offering Manuscript Reviews by AI Versions of Recently Deceased Professors The Grammarly "Expert Review" feature uses AI to provide feedback on papers using the name and work of real professors, dead or alive.

I could write “Fuck Grammarly” in the margins of every paper I mark, but as my friends and former students would point out, nobody can read my handwriting anyways.

Hats off to the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. I hope they are able to take this project into the soldiers’ communities to listen, learn and share.

I wouldn’t want to watch an AI video of my mom, who died back in September.

I did read through letters she wrote and scrapbooks she kept and genealogy she compiled and some of the books she kept
On the shelves in her office and found great comfort.

I wish you peace in your mourning.

Their leaders rape teens and blast the shit out of elementary schools in Iran and do nothing when sociopaths shoot up schools at home. Your Republican Party.

And Democrats, meanwhile, consistently fold before the cards are dealt.

Don’t expect validation from colleagues and administrators. Or support or encouragement. Build a network of friends and colleagues who share your interests—I know, that’s hard with a big teaching load—but you deserve respect and you may need to look beyond your campus for that.

I keep in my files the searing essay one quiet Iraq war veteran wrote in his final essay, a reflection on the readings in our “great books” class, that taught me so much about how to read Thucydides, the Gospels, and Augustine’s I have learned so much from my veteran students.

So, yeah, fuck Hegseth. Fuck ‘em all
