That flattened seventh on mugir.
Always the best bit of a rugby match involving France.
(Except if they’re playing Wales - I do like a bit of Gwlad Gwlad.)

Trooping the Colour.
There's a bunch of Chevening Scholars in my Masters classes and they massively enrich it. Impressive people and also so obviously wedded to going back and improving their own countries.
BREAKING - Big Story
A memo from Keir Starmer to all members of the UK Gov Cabinet has been leaked.

I look at how and why Moldovan citizenship has changed in relation to the turbulent up and downswings of democracy in Moldova @lsemethodology.bsky.social www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
Very pleased to announce the publication of our recent special issue on "Citizenship in the global struggles for democracy", co-edited with Jelena Džankić and Szabolcs Pogonyi @scmrjems.bsky.social @lsemethodology.bsky.social www.tandfonline.com/doi/full/10....
Glad Sarah Smith finds Iran war so funny.
Disgrace to her father.
On the pavement?!
Good.
Oh my!
I found Word actually converted my endnotes to footnotes quite well/easily when I was asked to do so.
(It hadn’t been quite so easy the other way round and I’d had to do manual workarounds.)
I have once found it useful - to do a machine-translate into English an article I’ve written in German, for someone who doesn’t know the language. It was OK at that - serviceable if not pretty - but then I know machine translation has come on apace.
But what else is it good for?
On the number of pages with x lines of footnotes (ie especially footnote-heavy) it was completely useless. Told me there were none with exactly x, and then none with at least x - when I know there are some.
Conclusion - it’s useless for this kind of task which I’d actually find helpful.
I set up a trial doc to ask questions - and it failed at first hurdle. Told me there were no footnotes at all (there are hundreds). Then when I suggested it did and put in a suggested (wrong) total it just bull-shitted me, apologised and said yes.
I just did an experiment with Copilot - there are various basic technical points that I’d like to know about my book manuscript. It’s footnote heavy as it’s an edition of letters, so I wanted to know how many footnotes, how many pages with more than x lines of footnotes) etc.
And yet they’ll have Ruddy from Newsmax on Today as “balance” to Davey. 🤷🏼
The historical maps on this site are just amazing - highly recommend.
(Not just Scotland!)
Trump's decision to bomb Iran is now the greatest windfall to the Russian war effort on record. If it continues, it might save the Russian war economy.
Quite a feat to have stopped the fire spreading to the station itself. The collapsed building is directly adjoining.
Appalling they had him on the slot with Ed Davey.
Why does Robinson never throw anything back at Tories? Just at Ed Davey for a few years in coalition.
Cheap shots.
And head of Newsmax? Wtf.
At least someone @eddavey.libdems.org.uk is standing up to Trump.
Mein Gott!

Today is International Women’s Day.
Over 70,000 women serve in Ukraine’s military.
Thousands fight on the front line.
Medics. Snipers. Drone pilots. Infantry.
They are not just defending Ukraine.
They are defending freedom itself.

AKA “let’s play loads of female composers on the radio while our Prime Minister panders to a child rapist”.
IWD: for me it’s become the “International (or not so international) day of pretending women matter in a world dominated by brute force and misogyny”.
I must say I’m increasingly despondent. When we look at Trump, Epstein, and the willing complicity of our own government to play along with a child rapist. This was not how it was meant to be (I’m 66 and have been a feminist for at least 50 years).
