On Being Born February 29th FAQ Yes, I was born on Leap Day. No, I do not age just every four years, but I wish that were the case. I wouldn't trade my birthday for a normal one for the world. It fits my unique personality, and I love that I was born on such a rare day. The off years, "It's not your real birthday" joke? I've heard it approximately 9,732 times. Please retire it. "So what are you, three?" Every leap day baby has endured this line a zillion times. We are exhausted from fake laughing. And if we're doing math, let's at least do it correctly. If I'd only had three"real" birthdays, I'd be twelve. I celebrate on February 28th because I was born in February. Not March. I do not identify with March as my birth month. Every leap day baby chooses a stand-in date for the three off years. Some celebrate on both days! No leap day babies get a February 29th 21st birthday. In America, that meant those of us who celebrate on the 28th couldn't legally order our first drink until March 1st. (I bypassed this injustice by going on a cruise ship in international waters).
