Black necked Grebe
Extremely poor record shot in fading light edited of 3 Black necked Grebe at Pennington Flash this evening. Was notified of their presence by P.Rhodes while I was at BCP, so had a walk over to Penny instead of watching the Starlings! #UKBirding #PFBirding

Y'day saw a chopper approach a murmuration of Starling on what appeared to be the same flight path, expecting it to change paths it carried on. The optical illusion created appears to slow the chopper down & drop in altitude as the Starlings rise. Quite intriguing to watch! #BCPBirding #UKBirding
A few of them on my patch as you know... thankfully the birds keep you sane!
The Starling roost count @BCPBirding is growing each day it seems with a rough estimate of 6000 this evening dropping into the reeds in 7 separate groups of various sizes all performing a murmuration, last group dropped @ 17.37 5 mins after the first group. #UKBirding #Patchbirding #Starlingroost

Good luck π€ I had a 2 hour layover at Doha on my way to Kenya, I didn't get to see outside the terminal building going & coming back! Mind you it was the middle of the night π
There are plenty of strange boundary decisions, when I first lived in Southport it was Lancs & has still got PR(Preston) post code but is now in Merseyside! Bents GC has a Warrington post code but a Wigan phone area code & Manchester used to be Lancashire π€π
Don't forget the 2 that flew over my Leigh garden on the 9th, although I still put Lancs on my Leigh postal address & not GM π€£π€£, possibly 2 of the 10 half an hour seen later @ Rivington. Any chance that 10 now down the road from me @ Lightshaw? #UKBirding #Lancsbirding #GMBirding #WfGoose
I know the same time every year unfortunately!
2000+Starling roosted @ Bickershaw CP today & 400+ Jackdaws also 1 Great White Egret flew over South to roost @ Pennington Flash otherwise quiet. Not mid Feb but firebugs have been busy already with an area of reed charred. #UkBirding #BCPBirding #Patchbirding
2 Russian White-fronted Geese flew over my Leigh garden, North, calling @ 08.03 this morning ππ#UKBirding

Thanks Colin perhaps not looking hard enough, the Ruff I did see was right in front of Discovery Hide feeding on fresh grain just put down for the Wildfowl! When I started birding back in 1983 living in Southport I spent nearly every weekend @ M.M & have many happy memories! I agree re best birdsite
Thank you for your query. I'm not sure what time high tide was in Southport/Marshside. You may be aware that M.Mere is about 9 miles as the crow flies inland & I am aware some birds frequently use both sites so yes could be a factor. π
