I've always wondered whether it would be better to in one of advertising's parasite businesses than in the business of advertising itself. The customers are bigger suckers.
There is absolutely nothing new in people wanting to systemise advertising and create a tick box system to tell whether it is good or not. It has been going on for decades. The latest incarnation is always seen as 'correct' and unimpeachable.
They are just products being marketed. I'm repeatedly surprised that anyone sees them as anything more. Catnip for the credulous.

Yes the grand proclamations part stands I think... it's one thing having an influencer facet to your comms strategy, who doesn't? But making some grand statement about moving away fromA and going all in on B - the record for marketers who do this is not great π

Seemed to me in the second half we built to a peak of almost unstoppable intensity, City couldn't live with it, then got our goal as a result. Felt inevitable that we would have to reset and regroup once we got ahead, as that level felt unsustainable for the full half.
Seems to me people are desperate for something to like/ something to point at and say is good to make themselves feel better. Also there seems to be a lot of 'I like this because...' rather than 'this is good because...'
