Interiors of the outdoor shop & general store have backgrounds that are printouts of actual store interiors with 3-D items placed just inside the windows for depth.

Paintbrushes and water-slide decals have been busy as I have basically completed all the transitions from miscellaneous train lines to all #Frisco to join my ready-made Frisco locomotives and cars in #hoscale.

Some cars I've redone I was able to work around the numbers that were originally on them so their numbers did not change.

So there's no official numbering scheme for anything.

Monday’s forecast about the same as it was 64 years ago when John Kennedy took the oath in a 22-degree chill & after crews worked overnight clearing 8" of snow from the parade route. Kennedy delivered his speech from the east steps without a topcoat, his frosty breath visible as he spoke.

2nd grade, week after we'd studied Color Wheel, I made a papier-mâché purple banana; purple's the complement of yellow.
I got into trouble. Something had to be wrong with me. They called in my Mother.
When I explained I wondered what a complement world would look like my mother shredded the teacher.

When I decided to create a new color scheme (FRISCO had a black scheme & a red scheme but they were separate) I decided to have fun with the look.
The numbers and the FRISCO on the cab are from the steam engine era and I really wanted those cool style numbers POP. Very pleased with how it came out.

I love working with paintbrushes🖌️; feel like I have more control than with any of the sprays.
I also had fun with the top of the little engine. You can just see I used several colors to add depth.
Need to take a group picture of all the evolutions that have occurred - redid other engines and cars.

Just paintbrushes. Dipping in my little bottles of Testor Paint that was on clearance in (of all places) Lowe's Home Improvement.

No accessories at this time. Hand-operated switches. Street lights for show (don't function). I do have an industrial spot light that you might see in a train yard but it is not wired in yet.

I never considered the issue of multiple folks working a layout. We don't have a railroad club here. Even the nearest "train" store is over an hour away.
Just me and my oval layout: two 4'x8' tops in an "L" shape (forest and river takes up a 4'x4' area with no tracks).
Excellent for one person.

I have a (non-running) model of the Stephenson Locomotion for a winter project (after I finish repairing, repainting, and placing new decals on these locomotives and cars spread across my table top).
Reminding myself: there's always NEXT winter if needed.

I have a science background (former teacher) but DCC plans have always looked, well, overwhelming. Then the expense of the locomotives (Chromebooks are getting cheaper but not engines)

What considerations do you think should go into building a DCC? When would a DCC be an automatic choice over a DC?

Wondered about DCC but questioned the necessity of the expense & knowledge for a layout like mine
Basically in the Spring when I can enter my garage without becoming an ice cube I will expand my layout to a basic figure-8. Hand-controlled switches.
DC works for that.
Now to get a working locomotive🚂

I wonder when the first slugs were built. Seen them on railcams but only a couple of times in real life. But maybe Union Pacific or BN-SF (the main railways around here) doesn't use them much in Missouri.

I'm about to work on motors for two HO-scale locomotives that I've repainted and put on different decals. If the motor builds work, they'll look great on my oval track. If the motor builds don't work, they'll look great on the side track.

Here's a couple of angles of Crispville. The strange sidewalks are sticky Dollar Store paper I cut apart, the roads are foam board and joint compound, buildings were junkers, made the signs (except RR crossing).
Yeah, it's a busy town down on the Ozark Plateau.

Please understand the seriousness... Example:

Did a quick glance for their "twins" being for sale. Yeah, not collector items.
But once done up in FRISCO decor and then properly weathered (good to obscure any decor issues) they'll look great at least on a side track.

Looking forward to seeing if either of these are the "the little engine that could" or if they are more "this little engine is only for show."

Have never done anything like that (landscaping and buildings are my bailiwick).
But I'll be up to the adventure once I get my wiring done (DC, of course).

My layout ain't fancy. Pretty much an oval with some side tracks (expansion expected in the Spring thanks to the gift of an unloved kitchen table but it will still be basically two ovals with simple connections).

I wanted to make sure I didn't have something that would be more valuable to sell and use the money for other items.
But I'm finding both of these trains in the $20 to $30 range (a couple listings for less but then there's shipping).
Yeah, time for a FRISCO paint job.

Is there any reason (like rarity, etc) that these two couldn't become FRISCO?
