I'll read some poetry against fascism alongside others who care about those terrifying repositories of other languages known as "foreign countries" at the Art League Friday. Thursday, a seminar at the U of Houston about Poetry After Barbarism, to honor those that dealt glintingly with this hell.
Since July, I've tracked at least 2,300 cases in which federal judges have ruled ICE has illegally detained people without bond or due process.

A video of Alex Pretti reading out the final salute of an unnamed veteran he cared for until the end of his life in the ICU, posted to Facebook by his son.

Sewing my mouth shut, making sure I get every possible infectious disease once controlled by humankind, stealing money from schools and museums, and issuing the most capricious, delusional executive orders will not stop me from writing.
Friends, I hope we can come together over this work, which deals with the rise of authoritarianism and how poets and artists reacted on intimate and public levels, through language itself. It's one of the things they can't really take away from us, as they attack education in every form.
I'll be busy this autumn launching my new book, Poetry After Barbarism: The Invention of Motherless Tongues and Resistance to Fascism, performing poetry and presenting in-progress projects about extraction and waste as well from time to time.

I am seriously impressed with Karyn Ball, the president of the American Comparative Literature Association who greeted its members thus in a time when we are being asked by administrators to "reimagine" the humanities in ways that will clearly decimate teaching of "foreign" languages & knowledges:

We continue thinking and doing through/vs the disasters & injustices. An exhibition of Exit 43 pop-up counterpastorals is now up in Kunstverein Munich—Many thanks to Vera Lutz and Simon Lässig and to curator Gloria Hasnay for the invitation to display these in dialogue with their show Romeo's Eyes.
