I hope someone does a postmortem on how this went so horribly wrong.
Typical Bellevue hysteria
Very sad news! When I was in Microsoft Research, I was lucky enough to work with Tony briefly and be named as a co-inventor on a patent with him. I loved hearing him tell us the story of his knighthood and all of the process involved!

Using link in profile, use 2-4 options below in email to reps: SB 5974 is a simple, common sense bill. Today about 95% of all law enforcement personnel are fully within the scope of the existing system in Washington State. This legislation simply requires that all police sheriffs, marshals, and volunteers comply with existing legislation for background checks, training, and certification. This legislation will make it clear that the law covers sheriffs, police chiefs, and town marshals and brings reserve officers and volunteers into the same system. This law will increase public trust in law enforcement, improve police accountability, and improve public safety.
Anyone can run for sheriff. This law will simply ensure that a sheriff would have to pass a background check and go through academy training within 12 months of taking office. Sheriffs would still be allowed to use volunteers for search and rescue, events, and natural disasters. This legislation would require that any volunteers using police authority must be certified.

WTF?
I've been saying this since the murders committed by Trump and Hegseth in Caribbean waters and the raid in Venezuela, The European Union is playing with fire by allowing those bases to remain open.
Your enemy is in your borders right now.
I'm not your enemy, but the US Government surely is.
Appalling: ICE and CBP contracted for $144 million in weaponry and accessories in Trump's first year, per data obtained by Sen Adam Schiff.
For ICE it's a fourfold increase, much of it for military-style weapons. A heavily armed secret police force. 1/

Any decent engineer would have realized long ago that you canβt program your way around the problems created by such bad hardware (sensor) choices. Elon is an idiot.
Seriously, read the whole thing:

It is clearer all the time that, if you are going to do anything, you must make an occasion to do it, and then are obviously a troublemaker. So you wait, and you wait. But the one great shocking occasion, when tens or hundreds of thousands will join with you, never comes. Thatβs the difficulty. If the last and worst act of the whole regime had come immediately after the first and smallest, thousands, yes, millions, would have been sufficiently shockedβ¦But of course this isnβt the way it happens. In between come all of the hundreds of little steps, some of them imperceptible, each of them preparing you not to be shocked by the next. Step C is not so much worse than Step B, and, if you did not make a stand at Step B, why should you at Step C? And so on to Step D.
I thought it would be easy to find my "red line" as a federal worker working for a fascist regime. It's not. Change is happening little by little. We "still do good work". None of us wants to be alarmist or defeatist

I love light rail and canβt wait for the 3/28 opening, but the line 2 outages (seemingly correlated with low temperatures) are very troubling.
But lots of people *don't* feel prosperous, which is kinda the thing that opened the door to all of this.
We need a progressive challenger to Hobbes
Who dresses like that to exercise?
Weβre working on it.
You are Palantirβs favorite Democrat. Are their contracts noncontroversial?
Good, but can you stop taking money from Palantir?
Feels more like FIRE HOSE so far
Letβs give this a go.
Yeah, letβs definitely leave it up to one guy with no legal training.
It's not the place of sheriffs to decide what is or is not unconstitutional.
Thank you, Sheriff Swank, for your help in firming up support for this bill.
