And he’s one of the councillors who has been spreading misinformation about rezoning often.
I am so tired.
The loud and angry are the ones with power in this city and they don’t use it for the betterment of all.

🤦♀️this province infuriates me.
It really, truly is.
But I will. So incredibly foolish we are here again.
It really hit me today how angry it makes me this is being redone. People spent a lot of their own time participating in the previous hearing… only to have it re-litigated.
This honestly makes me want to not participate- why bother if it doesn’t matter?
If #yyccc can achieve a 50/50 split between building new homes on the edge of the city & building them within the city, taxpayers are projected to save $16B+ over 60 years. Last year, blanket rezoning brought that ratio closer to balance than ever.
newsroom.calgary.ca/2025-marks-a...
Today #yyccc was told that a full repeal of blanket rezoning puts over $800 million in federal funding at risk, including $251 million in transit funding. In addition, it will jeopardize #yyc being awarded its share of $20 billion in transit funding. We quite literally can't afford to be NIMBYs.
It is staggering. We cannot afford to continue sprawling as we have been. I cannot comprehend how so many voices on council want to repeal blanket rezoning… are they communicating that higher taxes will likely be necessary?!
"Some councillors say larger tax hikes will need to be on the table to pay for it" OR (hear me out) don't repeal blanket rezoning & density will help while preserving (or at least keeping at bay) current tax rates. #yyccc
The Sheldon Chumir supervised consumption site saw move than 300,000 visits and responded to nearly 8,000 overdoses while saving thousands of lives. So, Alberta Conservatives want it shut down and the City of Calgary council wants more information.

Screenshot of the comment, which reads: The SCS isn’t in the wrong location - majority of people who are unhoused and use drugs remain downtown because that’s where all of the vital resources they utilize are located. The reason there is an increase of unhoused people and people who use drugs in the area is because 1. there is a severe lack of affordable and accessible housing and 2. It’s the only SCS in a city of over 1.6 million people and has only 6 booths. Imagine if the city had one bar - what would that street look like? The solution is to fund and build SCS’s around the city; this would drastically decrease the traffic of site users hanging around the area of the site. Another solution is to increase funding to housing. If people had safe and private spaces to use drugs, they wouldn’t be forced to do so in public. People who are removed from this and have no ties to the housing and opioid crisis, whether is professionally or personally, would be shocked to see how incredibly difficult it is to secure stable housing. Removing the SCS, which is a vital healthcare service, will increase the issues that community members are so concerned about, ie. crime, public drug use, needle debris. People are not opposed to the SCS, they’re just uncomfortable seeing people suffer and would rather it be out of sight than to actually educate themselves and advocate for tangible, sustainable solutions.
A well written comment from Syd Boa on a post the other day re: shutting down the safe consumption site at the Sheldon Chumir.

It's not just UCP.
"Though health advocates argue the province's $100 fee amounts to a treaty violation, the federal government rebuffed a request to step in, pointing out it's still free on reserves"
A National Day of Action for Public Health Care is scheduled for March 16, 2026, across Canada, to protest privatization and defend the Canada Health Act.
Rally will be held outside Edmonton Centre MP Eleanor Olswewski's office at 12220 Stony Plain Road.

This is a must read.
The study data is flawed, they appear to have deliberately overlooked established data and the people at the helm are UCP donors.

It staggers me how fast the vast majority of people - including medical professionals - have normalised infection with a virus that can cause cognitive dysfunction / anosmia. SARS-2 is definitively not 'just another respiratory virus', yet society is just shoehorning it in there.
Romanow did a great job,he identified many issues that had they been addressed then, would have made an impact. Public healthcare is collapsing. That collapse is the result of many bad policy decisions over many years.Right now, we *need* the federal government to *at least* enforce the CHA.
So the Alberta government is playing its hand pretty hard on this supervised consumption site study they manufactured, huh.
Their research CEO was even sent as the provincial-territorial delegate to the ‘UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs.’
Hope they don’t see this

Healthcare should not be political , you are correct. Policy should be evidence informed.
On accountability, we have none and the feds refuse to do their part with our only real (inadequate)mechanism to stop the destruction. Romanow discussed accountability >20 years ago…

We NEED federal action to protect public healthcare. It’s the federal government’s responsibility to enforce the Canada Health Act. Bill 11 (now law) violates it.
🇨🇦Canada’s government must enforce the Canada Health Act.

Great. But can you protect public healthcare?! If the federal government won’t enforce the Canada Health Act in Alberta, it’s gone.
Not Alberta Politics but…
Too good to not share!

He’s such a scary man.
They have no legitimate military objective.
FOM wrote to provincial & federal ministers over Alberta’s decision to charge for COVID vaccines, & concerns that it breached Treaty 6 Medicine Chest Clause & the Treaty Right to Health.
Everyone in this province deserves access to the care they need, yet both governments continue to pass the buck.
Opinion: I wrote a book about resistance movements in Iran. This is what Canada needs to do now, writes @maralkay.bsky.social
Here I’m criticizing the Alberta government’s ‘study’ on its own supervised consumption site closures by the merits of its *corruption alone*
Someone more qualified should examine its methodology. Knowing this government, I expect it’s very bad.

Dr Lorian Hardcastle told me the way the Alberta government is using personal data for ‘research’ on people who use drugs could cause real harm:
“We're potentially targeting people for criminalization or involuntary treatment. The consequences are significant."

We deserve for the decisions about our health care to be in our public interest, not the financial interests of for-profit corporations & their shareholders.
