Because what I was saying was they could typically get lower-paid and less supportive jobs, not that they could get no jobs at all.

Like I said, my grandmother was a part time mail carrier.

I wasn’t trying to present them as “representative,” but I don’t think they had an uncommon setup.

Women typically couldn’t get much in the way of jobs, and when they did, they were paid pennies on the dollar a man got paid for the same work.

It was a shitty setup.

And I’m not saying that was a good or equitable distribution, mind. That structure was deeply rooted in patriarchal expectations and the oppression of women, who were expected to do a huge amount of uncompensated labor.

This would change, a little, but our economy would also plunge over and over.

My grandparents, in the 50s-60s, managed to get by with one major income (grandpa), one part time income (grandma), own their own house, and raise four kids.

This, of course, assumed my grandma would do all the housework herself, which was a full time job in and of itself.

I've recently read about studies showing underdeveloped frontal lobes (the part of the brain associated with empathy and critical thinking) among rightwingers, who instead rely on their amygdala (associated with fear and intolerance for the unknown).
