I both know a stomper and also know someone who has tried out around 7 times and still isn't in. You need to be able to memorize the choreography for sure. You also need to be very entertaining and quick on your feet during the live interview portion. Having a crowd cheering for you helps probably.
But you also have to pass their vibe check. It's like rushing for a frat to an extent. They are going to invite you drinks or a party and you need to be fun to be around without seeming like a tryhard.
They are signalling to their gun toting base that when the boogaloo/kristalnacht/Purge pops off, even if it doesn't succeed on its own, the politicians who can will use their power to make sure the violence is forgiven.
