We're once again partnering with WashMask Mutual Aid to bring free comics and graphic novels to children of WA state farm workers! For the month of March we are taking donations of new or gently read comics and graphic novels (suitable for the under 18 crowd). π§΅

Who is reading, at what age, and why are definitely better data points to ask questions from.
Every time I stop by Barnes and Nobles, it's busy. Every time I do my regular small bookstore route, other folks are coming in and out. I've overheard at least three conversations about people excitingly talking about how they got back into reading.
Katie Wilson is proposing a 7-year, $410 million library levy renewal. The previous 7 year levy approved in 2019 was $219 million.
Expanded hours, building infrastructure upgrades, and increased materials are being put front-and-center with the renewal.
The cover of EJ Dickson's ONE BAD MOTHER.
I've long been an admirer of @ejdickson.bsky.social's work, and ONE BAD MOTHER is a fantastic edition to that. A very thorough overview of the various ways motherhood is scrutinized, categorized, and often found lacking no matter what they do.
A table with a black banner for Authors Against Book Bans, with copies of many books on top. Many of the books contain bookmarks listing where they have been banned, including my own books Everything I Never Told You (banned in FL, IA, and VA) and Little Fires Everywhere (banned in VA)
At the Mass Statehouse with @aabbri.bsky.social, talking to reps about MA's proposed Freedom to Read bill.
NATIONAL LEGISLATION Freedom to Read FIGHT BOOK BANS ACT - H.R.7691 β’ Provides federal grants to help districts protect students' access to educational materials RIGHT TO READ ACT - H.R.6440 / S.3365 β’ Invests in literacy & school libraries β’ Promotes staffing certified school librarians β’ Expands access to diverse, engaging books β’ Defends First Amendment rights in school libraries
With 21 Statesβ Attorneys General signing onto Floridaβs βlibraries are government speechβ argument, itβs more important than ever to pass legislation nationally in support of the Freedom to Read.
Here are two bills to write your Congressperson and Senator about:
this junkballing Czech electrician is a folk hero in Japan for striking out Ohtani in the last WBC (stopped for photos/autographs etc) but he's retiring after this bc Czech league ball doesn't pay the bills.
I love the way he took in in this one last surreal moment before going back to normalcy

If anyone is up for boosting, Bandcamp is holding a fundraiser for the Trans Continental Pipeline to help trans people escape from Kansas!
I wrote about the first national book banning bill, which effectively seeks to erase trans people. At the end I include a link to let your reps know that you oppose this bill and all it stands for. lithub.com/why-we-must-...
you know you can do what you want, but i would recommend never using any of these fucking chatbots and absolutely keeping them away from the people you love, especially your children

Call your reps about this. Every time a book ban has been overturned or shut down, it's because the vast majority of people who believe in the freedom to read spoke up.

To be far, I accidentally snapped a plastic straw in half and am not regularly confronted by danger, but still.
Just gasped out loud for the first time in a solid decade and just as abruptly realized I have vastly overestimated how often my characters would gasp in fiction.
"Live like the mountain is out" is a cheesy phrase, but man is that really the feeling.
Iβm transgender, I live in Kansas, if you want to help rn donate to either the ACLU of Kansas or the ACE foundation in Wichita - the ACE foundation especially is the organization that will help people with money for groceries, rent, etc. More orgs also included in attached img

Men in their 40s with podcasts who are too scared to confront power but can create a world where they still get to lord over others are doing this on purpose and are being shoveled money hand over fist in order to do so.
Hey team! Donβt let this pass! Or even get a βrespectableβ show of yeas.
If you have the means, please donate to the Trans Continental Pipeline right now. They are a Colorado based org that helps trans people relocate and they are overwhelmed with requests. Colorado borders Kansas, and TCP has the infrastructure to help get people out.

I've written up a brief script for anyone who wants to call or write your representatives regarding this bill (yes, even the ones you think won't care). PLEASE DO THIS IF YOU ARE ABLE. This bill *cannot* pass.
