Why it’s becoming so expensive to buy a car in America
Prices are at new highs. Buyers are older. More loans are going bad. It’s not an easy time to afford a car in America.
Car prices are up 30% since 2019. The average new car loan lasts 68.8 months now. One in five pay $1K/month. Used cars avg $25K. The share of loans 90 days past due is 8.6%. A figure not seen since pandemic. And 2008-2009. Now gas prices are up 14% with trump’s global war for oil.

I think a lot about why there’s so much focus on the top bar instead of the bottom bar. Perhaps because most people identify as drivers and don’t want to be inconvenienced by additional regulations, while cyclists are still the “other”?

A vibrant, wide-angle photo of a colorful outdoor mural promoting the "Super Bowl LX Apple Music Halftime Show." The mural is painted on a long blue wall in a sunlit, tropical setting with real palm trees and bright pink bougainvillea flowers cascading over the top.
The artwork features a playful, surreal collage of cultural and football-themed elements:
Central Text: The Apple Music logo in bold yellow and red 3D lettering is flanked by "SUPER BOWL LX" above and "HALFTIME SHOW" below.
Iconic Imagery: Large illustrations of a golden trumpet, pink sunglasses, maracas, dominoes, and a cup of coffee with a musical note in the foam.
Football Elements: Brown footballs are depicted growing on palm trees like coconuts and resting on the ground.
Foreground: A young girl in a yellow dress walks along the sidewalk in front of the mural, passing a small goalpost illustration where a green parrot is perched.
The overall aesthetic is warm, festive, and celebrates a fusion of Latin-inspired culture and American football.
I'm going to do a thread of all the references and context behind Bad Bunny's performance and what it means for Puerto Ricans to see this on the biggest stage.
The opening title screen is a street mural in Puerto Rico that comes to life with footballs as coconuts.
Follow along!

S.F. speed cameras are generating mountains of tickets and fines. Here are the totals so far
August was the first month that San Francisco’s automated speed cameras generated citations with a fine. One camera accounted for a quarter of all the tickets, according to data.
Analysis finds that “comparing a single day before the speed camera implementation with one day after, average speeds came down at every single one of those 15 corridors last month. It also found that the share of vehicles speeding by more than 10 miles an hour over the limit fell by a whopping 78%“

All devices behind a router have the same public IP address. Duplicate IPs mean multiple people in the same house / coffee shop / library / office took the survey.
This is only suspicious if there was a huge # from 1 address, or if you think a human living / eating / working with others is odd.

Car Access in San Mateo
A look at census data and how many people live in San Mateo with limited car access
About 1 in 5 San Mateo residents can’t rely on a personal car for daily trips.
In many neighborhoods, it’s closer to 1 in 3. Limited car access shows up most in lower-income areas.

Copenhagen has taken bicycle commuting to a whole new level
Cycling has been a part of that good life in Copenhagen for decades. In recent years, it has enjoyed yet another unfathomable surge in popularity — taken to the next level thanks to constantly improvi...
“Copenhagen reported that 62% of its residents are now commuting to work or school by bike — an increase from 52% in 2015 & 36% in 2012, when the City Council launched a 14-year-plan to improve the quality, safety & comfort of cycling.”
#Copenhagen chose. They keep choosing even better every year.

Her first course of action was to block all pro-housing and pro-bike people from it 😂

4-year-old boy dies after being run over in S.F., police report says
The driver remained on the scene after the Sunday morning collision in Hayes Valley, police said.
"A woman was seen on the ground screaming and wailing as two other women tried to comfort her."
This is 100% my biggest nightmare. It is increasingly dangerous to just *walk* around our cities, and our electeds are mostly asleep at the wheel while kids die.

Pelosi Says Police May Arrest Federal Agents Who Violate California Law
As the Border Patrol heads to the Bay Area, Nancy Pelosi today said local law enforcement may arrest federal troops who break California law.
The idea comes from San Francisco DA Brooke Jenkins who says she will prosecute them.

White House begins demolishing East Wing facade to build Trump’s ballroom
The president had claimed construction of the $250 million ballroom wouldn’t “interfere” with the existing White House structure.
In CA you can’t replace the windows on a historic property without triggering CEQA.
An I the only one wondering if the White House is on the National Register of Historic Places and if this addition conforms to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties?

We need to figure out how to unlock SB 684 / SB 1123 / SB 79 for “mom and pop” property owners.
I keep hearing from developers that lots under an acre don’t pencil, but if I could get a loan and expert assistance I’d consider building 16 units on my 0.16 acre lot under SB 79.
