Screenshot of a single question and answer from interview in the Times Literary Supplement with Ursula K. Le Guin. Here is the quote: If you could make a change to anything youβve written over the years, what would it be? In The Dispossessed, I would mention the communal pickle barrels at street corners in the big towns, restocked by whoever in the community has made or kept more pickles than they need. I knew about the free pickles all along, but never could fit them into the book.
Ursula K. Le Guin on the true pain of being a writer
People are not their governments.
If you are also an American, it is especially vital that you decouple your sense of self from this nation.
Dr. Fidel Castro had a powerful perspective on the clear difference between a countryβs government & the people living inside it:
Image description: a white embossed depiction of Lenin. Text reads: LENIN 100 years on
A hundred years ago today Vladimir Ilyich Lenin passed away, but his ideas did not. An inspiration not just to the millions of workers across the Soviet Union who fought to overthrow the Tsar, but to socialists across Europe and beyond, paving the way for the first socialist country and the first true example of an alternative to capitalist hegemony. We at the WUN celebrate his life and accomplishments, and continue to organise under Marxist Leninist principles that guide us to this day. We share with you a poem by another celebrated Welsh communist, T.E. Nicholas (Niclas Y Glais), who penned many poems during his years in prison for upholding his communist beliefs.
Lenin gan Niclas y Glais Cerddaist i ganol annibendod chwyldro, Ac i drueni cenedl dan yr iau; Gelwaist ar breiddiau dynol a fu'n erwydro Mewn anialdiroedd dan y dynau cau. Adnabu gwlad alwad ei ffrind a'i cheidwad, A thyrru'n fintai ith ddiguro gad; A thithaun symud difrod yr hen famwlad Ag arfau cartef - dyfais gwerin gwlad. Tyfodd gwareiddiad o'th ddioddef cynnar, A blodau rhyddid dyn o sang dy draed; Daeth ffydd o gobaith gwell I ddall a byddar, A dyddiau heddwch o'r afonydd gwaed. Dymchwelaist thronau'r byd a duwiau'r nen, A thynnu dial Mamon am dy ben.
Lenin by Niclas y Glais You strode into the midst of a revolution's chaos, Into the wretchedness of a nation bent beneath the yoke; You called upon flocks of humanity who wandered the wilderness beneath the clenched fist. A land recognised the call of it's friend and saviour, And surged together to battle in a host for your invincible cause, Whilst you made good the damage to the ancient motherland With home-made weapons - the fruit of the common people's genius. From your early suffering grew a civilisation, And in your footprints grew the flowers of freedom to deaf and blind come faith and hope, And out of the rivers of blood came days of peace, The world's thrones and heaven's gods you overthrew, and drew the wrath of Mammon on your head.
Today marks 101 years since Lenin passed - an eternal comrade to the working class π©
Last year, on the 100th anniversary, we shared the poem βLeninβ by Welsh communist and Bard Niclas y Glais / T.E. Nicholas.
Today, weβd like to reshare it and ask all to read it
A cat poster based on a soviet World War 2 poster. A large, red cat on its hind legs fights a black snake that coils in the shape of a swastika. The cat looks victorious as it steps on the snakes tail and successfully slices at the snake with its claws. Below the image in bold text reads: "Defeat the Fascist Snake!"

A cat poster in the style of a propaganda poster. A cat stands in the foreground in fishing garb holding a metal dish filled with freshly caught fish and other seafood. In the background are socks and fishing boats. Cats work on the docks, boats, and in the radio tower. The poster is mostly blue but a bright yellow sunrise colour forms a halo around the head of the foreground cat. Text at top reads "Sustainable - Healthy - Delicious, Fish In Your Dish" and at bottom reads "Caught by the brave workers of the fishercat union." An international Fishercat Union logo is in the bottom left.
In our world, fishing is one of the most dangerous jobs. In the cat world, those who go out on the waters are considered exceptionally brave. The International Fishercat Union supports these cats on the water and the land and helps coordinate eco-stewardship. #art #union #sovcat
What a great shot!
A galah, perched on a barbed wire fence, stretches and pokes its tongue out to reach seeding grasses.
Happy tongue-out-tuesday π
A cat poster in the style of a old-timey propaganda poster. The poster is divided into four vertical segments: 4 hours of work, 4 hours napping, 8 hours sleeping, and 8 hours "whatevs". The segments have illustrations of cats working, sleeping, etc. At bottom is the slogan "Control Productive Time and Reclaim the Day!"
The thought behind this #art is ultimately we can do things differently so working people can reap the fruits of automation and productivity not just in compensation but in terms of the structure of our day-to-day lives and, ultimately, control the limited time we have on this earth. ...
I really love this piece! Not only is the message wonderful, but the illustrations are so peaceful and fun. Thanks for sharing your ideas and your art!
Could not be any more obsessed with him if I tried
Me too!! Hardest habit to break!!
A cat poster in the style of a soviet propaganda poster. An orange cat in blue embraces a sphynx cat dressed in yellow. Side by side they both face the viewer with happy expressions. In the background above them hovers a flying saucer with a large beam of light coming down. The space is full of yellow and orange star shapes and the orbits of two planets are shown to link. At bottom are the words "Galactic Friendship - Make it so!" Signed Nathan Nun 2020
This one is a little different than all other sovcat posters as it went very much sci-fi. It imagines a propaganda response to the cat world meeting aliens. The aliens are portrayed as sphynx cats as I always thought they looked like the iconic grey aliens.
Totally incredible! Can't imagine how much patience was required to get all of those spikes lined up. Well done!!
So awesome!!
