Charging a fee for retrieving medical records is, unfortunately, pretty standard. They're allowed to charge a "reasonable" fee which is, if I'm remembering correctly, meant to be just costs (staff hours, any printing etc).

It's obviously not quite the same, but I referred a bunch of people I know to a gynae who later got deregistered on sexual misconduct. To think I put people in harm's way like that made me feel so nauseous.
