Fintan O’Toole: Simon Harris is deliberately spreading disinformation on immigration
For Fine Gael, the small number awaiting deportation is proof inward migration has become ‘too high’
“There is a question that hovers over Irish politics: what will the parties of power do when they start to panic about losing it? Last week, after their joint debacle in the presidential election, we got the grim answer: turn on immigrants.” - @fotoole.bsky.social

Northern Ireland man from Lisburn kidnapped by Trump’s Ice raids because he “looked like a Mexican”. He had the correct visa, all his documents. He’s never been in trouble with police.
Held in terrible conditions. A fellow captive couldn’t get his medication and dropped dead of a heart attack

They have gone beyond banning trans healthcare to almost criminalising it. Children, who this development targets, do not have the same access to DIY networks to get around this law as adults, making this extremely dangerous. We need a crossboarder trans defense movement now!

Notes on Vanishing
YouTube video by Lily Alexandre
youtu.be/cqhiup5qSY8?... This was an incredible video about the politics of trans visibility, I cannot recommend it enough. Given the recent escalation of violence gardaí have been using against women and queer protestors, the ending is particularly harrowing.

Post supporting the anti trans uk ruling by David Cullinane Sinn Fein td
Ah for gods sake!! I can’t anymore with SF! Biological determinism which feminism has long fought against has always been the route through which women and girls, and their bodies were / are survelled, controlled, governed and oppressed - read a bit of feminist theory ffs! #speirgorm

Solidarity for folk in the UK tonight. Try not to forget that the state was never there to protect us in the first place. It's our job to keep each other safe. We've done it for centuries before and we'll do it for centuries more. A lot of bad people are going to feel empowered. Stand together.

Going from reading the Kinsey Report reject that gender identity and sexual identity are exclusive towards each other to reading the judgement from the UK today that on the first page makes a distinction between 'women' and 'the trans community' (as if they are necessarily separate) is fucking wild.

amazing how the cyber attack on the British Library still means that all recently published work (and that's a definition that stretches back several years) is completely unavailable to researchers, since they only acquired ebooks and that system is still down

If one more academic website introduces a shitty AI tool to poorly sum up someone's book or anything similar I'll chuck my laptop out my office window. My job is to carefully read people's work so I can qualify their analysis with my insights about the sources, not to be force-fed a bot's bad essay.

I'm kind of tired of events that are designed to be Queer inclusive where there's only a small handful of trans women present, if we're there at all. If you are running the space and less than 5% of attendees are trans women or similar, there's a serious problem. We're not hard to find, so find us.

One of the earliest International Gay Association campaigns was about US immigration officials refusing any out gay people from entering the country. That was back in the late 1970s. We fought it together then, we'll fight it together now.

I completely agree with Dr. Dhomhnaill that therapy notes should not be used in court. I do want to add that psychological services around GBV can be harmful for other reasons as well. Psychiatry is heteronormative and Queer Mad people's concerns are often dangerously ignored or belittled by psychs.

Also learn about radical history where you live. It's easy to think all the major groups and actions in the past have happened in New York, London, or Toronto, but wherever people have faced oppression there has been resistance. The best way to develop your struggle is to learn from home and abroad.

I saw a great ? about uni supports at orientation this morning. There was a guy who asked why we need five people to send the same vague Help pdf when the uni is doing nothing to address larger housing crises, cost of living crises, and INIS bullshit. HR smiled and moved on without responding.

To be clear, I think the situation is dire enough that ideally US trans folk would deserve refugee status. The problem is the Irish immigration system is underfunded and built to fail, creating artificial scarcity. We must create active solidarity with all refugees, not make things harder for them.

There are some people trying this in Ireland. Problems include: Ireland doesn't have asylum, it has EU international protection status that's a bit different, and US citizens have enormous passport privilege compared to other applicants, so they have other ways to get residency most refugees don't.

Gay liberation activists' work to depathologize homosexuality was positive because it called out serious abuses of power and fought for a holistic view of well being. Unfortunately, many tried to distance themselves from other Mad people as well. Queer lib should mean bodily autonomy for us all.

alright you wanna know how to support trans people?
hire them. It's REALLY hard already for visibly trans people to get jobs, even before this shit.
Support places that have trans people working front of house, and make sure owners know that's part of why you're there.
