Grammatik - Wikipedia

We should just bring back Grammatik en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grammatik - surprisingly good on an 8-bit system with 64 *K* of RAM, rather more advanced than you'd expect for something released in 1981. (Classic expert system, included a FORTH interpreter which is how it *fit* in 64K :-)

Basically what my polestar 2 has, left thumb d-pad is for "smart" cruise control, right one is generic but usually media. (2021 so I think it was just before designs got completely unusable)

I'm wondering what the smallest box you could get Whisper to run on locally, but it's probably not this

Is there a list of misappropriated names? (I was surprised to turn up on the libgen list for one very obscure work, so maybe I should opt out regardless... maybe we *all* should...)

Hmm, we have some big patches that the local cats have never bothered with (maybe it's more of a risk for bored indoor cats, or maybe it's just that the deer get to them first)

Put your hand up if you received the ELIZA vaccine at a young age and are now immune to chatbot spiraling

The one with the tracks looks like you could build a new version of the SuperHot video game around it

"Clean. Sweet. RESENTFUL." Is the new "unbothered. Moisturized. Flourishing" :)

Not really my area, but one key difference between "old" and "sketch-like" is that old (html) just looks bad, but sketch-like is more obviously a step on a path - it has "you can't stop here, it's bat country" right there in the appearance...

Balsamiq is what I remember as one of the early tools that heavily marketed the idea that you should "sketch interfaces this way *because* of the fidelity problem" - it came out in 2008

My ICQ UIN is 7231680. That number is burned into my consciousness. I inadvertently learned that you could see private conversations in public chat rooms when using Telnet instead of a browser on GeoCities. I can tell you the difference in audible dial-up handshakes between 1200, 2400, 14.4 kbps modems. I needed a edu email address to join Facebook after my university was admitted. We were here at the beginning. We made social media. You wouldn't be in my Top 8. I have usernames older than you.

Yeah, we had a take-the-stairs initiative from our health insurance back in 2005 or so, until our other insurance pointed out the safety stats on staircase injuries and told them to knock it off

And then there are the books that have UPC codes, but they encode as "[paperback book][$3.99 cover price]" (literally, 00399 as the last 5 digits.) Mass Market paperbacks, with some overlap with EAN being introduced, so there's a short "era" with a second code inside the front cover...

AI-generated artwork is officially not eligible for copyright protection after the U.S. Supreme Court declined to review the appeal.

The court ruled that a work must have a human creator in order to qualify for copyright.

When someone says β€žScientists do not want you to knowβ€œ you can dismiss everything from there on. Scientists want you to know. They are desperate that you know. They can’t shut up about what they found out and want you to know.

Just don't treat it as a new argument :) I remember alternate fuels rhetoric from the 1970s oil crisis as "we should do science so we can stop caring about the middle east", it was that generation's sputnik...

I remember when dual-motor was first a thing, and hearing "oh, huh, don't need a transmission because ethernet is Fast Enough"; no idea if that's actually *true* but would love to see the packets if it is :-)

gmaps reminds me of a thread a few weeks back: all of "Medford Supercollider", "Newton Supercollider", and "Longfellow Supercollider" show up for traffic spots in this area

very "and if you draw those lines in chalk, and put a candle at each corner, it'll summon something unspeakable" vibes

(of course, all I could think of was "Robert Moses, and he's just as confused as you are about it")

SpaceX SpaceX designs, manufactures and launches advanced rockets and spacecraft.

Rocket launch from Cape Canaveral tonight at 9:56pm, should be visible along entire east coast of US. In Boston area, look somewhere from 2-6 minutes after liftoff in the east/southeast sky. www.spacex.com/launches/sl-...
