The Great Gatsby notably became popular because it was issued to American GIs, many of whom had an 8th grade reading level, during World War II.

WHAT?!
There's VA-11 Hall-A DLC in Rift of the Necrodancer? This is how I find out?
Thanks to the VA-11 Hall-A DLC I finally tried out Rift of the Necrodancer. It's a cool game with a fun gimmick for its notes, but is it just me or is the timing oddly hard? I'll get Greats in odd places here and there, even with calibrating.
don't worry, the U.S. is fully capable of removing mines from the Strait of Hormuz, we didn't just decommission out last mine- sweepers in the area and replace them with Littoral Combat Ships (the worst boats in the fleet by wide agreement) with untested mine interdiction upgrades
Got a young tomcat prowling about, and it's gotta be his first go around the sun, because he's pissing up everything probably thinking that my squad of huge eunuch cats are some sort of threat to him when all they want to do is sun themselves
a meme of a mcdonald's "jesse plemons meal" parodying the sports celebrity meals at fast food places, it shows a picture of him looking a little offput and the meal consists of a regular hamburger, fries from wendy's, and a cup for water. jesse is low key saying "I get it sometimes"
it may finally happen

Difficult to emphasize just how much a generation of kids has been taught that being dishonest, superficial, and narcissistic is the pathway to attention and therefore success
Probably going to see project Hail Mary despite hating the Martian on a visceral level. Imagine being utterly alone and doing zero introspection. Imagine being an astronaut who snarks at his environment. Hated that dickhead.
oh the feet people got to it, they're going to make a marathillion dollars
I was in a 2 hour briefing today on the Iran War. All the briefings are closed, because Trump can't defend this war in public.
I obviously can't disclose classified info, but you deserve to know how incoherent and incomplete these war plans are.
1/ Here's what I can share:
Look so this isn't really OP's the point, but one of the weirdest things about the prequels *even at the time* was the disconnect between their /relatively/ astute politics & big-picture work on the one hand and their clunky writing & scene-work on the other
Fuck. Panic mode. I've got until the 10th to figure out a new home, possibly even shorter if the landlady tries to take my ass to court because my state will do short evictions for late rent.
If you can help it would be appreciated.

I love that every single piece of tech now just arbitrarily resets itself without warning
everything else aside it is quite funny that trump got briefed about iran mining the strait and immediately opened his phone to start yelling about mines. zero thoughts about the consequences of the president posting "MINES! oh no!"
I'm pretty sure that I didn't learn multiple foreign languages by running my homework exercises through ChatGPT. As a matter of fact, I learned them by practicing and doing homework.
And, sure, you COULD "automate" learning Japanese Kanji by running WaniKani through ChatGPT but that's not learning
Part of what I adore about Caves of Qud is that it is _not_ entirely procedurally generated. You can see a lot of human touches in the characters and quests you encounter. The staticness of the human touch makes the experience far better!
For centuries kings ruled by "divine right"
Magna Carta 1215: "free men" (barons) protected from illegal imprisonment, unlimited taxes.
Martin Luther Reformation ~1516: separate state from church.
Industrial Revolution peak ~1820 (UK).
2026: let's not wait ~100 yrs to separate state from corporation

Literally shitting on the part that makes it intellectual development. It requires things like *reading* for yourself and *writing* for yourself. Those aren't chores, they're part of skills acquisition and critical development.
For the tech world, education *is* a chore, you want to get the bare minimum as fast as possible before jumping in and making big bank at a start up, or as an entrepreneur yourself. Everything in the path of wealth or power or validation *through* these things must be discarded.
Breaking my usual habit of not talking about current or upcoming things to say: this novel is a favorite of mine. Great stuff.
