The self is a #biophysical phenomenon: #consciousness that emerges from brain activity, even during sleep, including the fast unconscious.
The ego is a #biochemical need: desires and motivations driven by hormones and neurotransmitters, always in relation to others.

UK academics, be aware that what's happening to universities in the US is coming to us in a few years, in the (unfortunately quite likely) event that Reform wins.

Sensory stimuli dominate over rhythmic electrical stimulation in modulating behavior
Transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) modulates entrainment to rhythmic auditory stimuli, but the details of this interaction are not clear. This study shows that the effects of tACS dep...
How does the brain track rhythmsβand can we hack it?
In our new study, just published @plosbiology.org, we dive deeper into neural entrainmentβhow the brain synchronizes to rhythms in our environmentβand explore whether transcranial alternating current stimulation (tACS) can modulate this process.

Alzheimerβs blood test can spot people with early symptoms, study suggests
New test accurately picks up on memory problems by examining two proteins in blood plasma, US researchers find
A new blood test for Alzheimerβs disease can accurately detect people with early symptoms, research suggests.
The test examines blood plasma levels of amyloid beta 42/40 & p-tau217 β both associated with amyloid plaque buildup, a hallmark of the disease.

Scientific Publishing: Enough is Enough
Why we're no longer funding journal publications
We're excited to take this step, and to talk to other folks who are interested in experimenting. If you have something you're excited to try, reply here -- and we might even fund it. asterainstitute.substack.com/p/scientific...

Trump tasked #Palantir to build a system that fuses your medical records, bank data, online activity, parking tickets, wet dreams and more into one massive profile. This isn't for security. It's a surveillance state in beta.

"This adversarial collaboration has not only provided crucial understanding of how consciousness emerges in the brain but has also revealed a novel and powerful methodology for conducting science, one that we will undoubtedly incorporate into our future MEG investigations on cognitive and clinical neuroscience." Professor Ole Jensen, Chair of Translation Cognitive Neuroscience
What is consciousness? A global team of researchers, including Chair of Translation Cognitive Neuroscience Professor Ole Jensen, put two top theories to the test. Find out how they fared: buff.ly/5IU1BH0
