Sky Garden.
Az-Tech Trial.
Construction Derby.
Creamy Canyon.
In this thread, I’m ranking all 6 levels of the first world in Astro Bot from Weakest to BEST, I say “weakest” because none of them are downright bad & the weakest one is fine with all the others being good at least. Credit to other sources for screenshots.

@lackadaisy.bsky.social Last Call review - It’s one of my top 10 favorite YouTube videos of 2025!
So I love seeing Glitch and Lackadaisy collab, but this review is about the quality of the “Last Call” musical number itself.

Yes
So pretty wow
So adorable! 🥰
So adorable 🥰
The level is peak, it’s exactly how levels in games should be designed! When I started this segment, I was going to give this level a default 9/10, now it’s a 9.5/10. Genuinely incredible stuff!
🧵28/28
The bulldog power-up from Astro Bot.
The sumo-wrestling enemy from Astro Bot chasing Astro.
The power-up is what makes the level so damn fun & fast-paced: you can charge through enemies, you can get to new platforms with it, you can smash through glass with it: you can do all 3 of those at once, and there’s those sumo wrestler enemies, love the satisfaction of those fireworks!
🧵27/28
The absolute best aspect of this level, above the banger theme, above the good enemy placement, and above the cranes naturally helping you progress through the level in a natural-feeling way: my favorite power-up of Astro Bot’s first world: the dog that launches you across the screen!
🧵26/28
The best overarching aspect of this level is how fast-paced & pure fun it is to breeze without being too easy to boring dregrees, this isn’t “boring” at all, it’s a joy to platform across the skyscraper constructions and avoid Mighty Chewy before fighting him, really good foreshadowing.
🧵25/28
#1. Construction Derby.
#1. Construction Derby [9.5/10]
Not particularly close, I adore this level and it’s one of my favorites of the entire game, let alone my actual favorite of the first world! It and Sky Garden are the two levels of this first world in the game I personally consider flawless.
🧵24/28
A screenshot of the skybox from the first level of Astro Bot.
Visually the level is good too, some nice green, some tech & some water, but it’s the background skybox of this level that absolutely blows me away! The round green around the fluffy clouds + those distant planets are stunning.
Combine all that with the enemy beach details and I love it!
🧵23/28
Inflation ability in Astro Bot.
I think the best thing about this level aside from the theme is how vertical the layout is + how fun that makes platforming & just moving around the level to me, it’s a blast!
The inflation ability is also fun and surprisingly smooth to control compared to how easily it could’ve sucked.
🧵22/28
But as a first level that introduces you into mechanics of the game, yeah this level is perfect! It introduces you to various enemies that are very smartly-paced as you progress through the level, it adds more terrain as you rescue some bots (one of very few levels to do that, but it works.)
🧵21/28
#2. Sky Garden.
#2. Sky Garden [9/10]
This is about as perfect as first levels in video games get for me. I will fully admit, a very biased reason this is ranked so high is the background song, Astro. Easily my favorite song that was released during 2024, a pure banger and unbelievably addicting!
🧵20/28
Specter mini-boss in Astro Bot.
You already fought Mighty Chewy at that point, and this guy sends in the easiest minions, then you throw an explosive at him, and the only challenge is more annoying than fun, you trying to catch him as he constantly movies around you.
But outside of some fluff, I love this level now!
🧵19/28
The worst monkey in this is the one on a layered triangular platform, you get up there and it’s infuriating to try keeping up, HATE that one!
My other flaw with this level is the terrible mini-boss at the end, the lead-up is good, but the fight itself is probably the worst in the game.
🧵18/28
My only issues are some of the monkeys being unfun to catch, the best ones have a clever way you need to get to them/stop them, and the worst ones are just “you run after them and they keep running away from you and it’s annoying to catch up.”
🧵17/28
The presentation, from the (probably adapted from Ape Escape) background music, to level design aspects like the checkered pattern on the floor of the center, all the way to Astro slipping off a banana at the beginning, is a blast to be in!
There’s just a huge sense of personality to this.
🧵16/28
Astro rail-grinding in the Ape Escape level from Astro Bot.
My favorite aspects are definitely the presentation & rail-grinding.
I love those blue/red rails in the center of the level, it’s a blast to continuously grind off them, or get off them by spin jumping to get to your destination, they’re a really good travel system throughout the map.
🧵15/28
#3. Apes on the Loose.
#3. Apes on the Loose [8/10]
DISCLAIMER: I’ve never played Ape Escape.
Maybe controversially, I disliked this level on my first playthrough. I still have some issues with a few of the monkeys being more annoying-than-fun to try catching, but otherwise this is great, I love this level now!
🧵14/28
The level is well-laid out, being a detailed linear path with well-hidden secrets, and I love the sound effects here: mainly the sound effects that play each time you solve those rumble gate puzzles!
Az-tech trail is only a 7.5/10 for me because it’s less-so incredible, and more-so good.
🧵13/28
Astro swinging across red stickiness with the boxing gloves power-up.
Astro pulling back a sticky red cube with the boxing gloves power-up.
A slingshot from the Astro Bot level. Az-Tech trail.
Astro facing an enemy from Astro Bot with green gloves.
One of my favorite powers in the game due to the multiple uses!
You can punch certain walls, you can punch those bouncy bugs and they only slightly bounce back, making platforming with them somewhere more manageable, and my favorite: you can monkey swing with them against certain material!
🧵12/28
This might be my favorite-looking level on this ranking! It’s robotic in a fitting way to the rest of the game’s aesthetic, but it’s still green & lush at the same time! Robotic, green plants & moss everywhere, it’s great.
The highlight is the power-up: the stretchable boxing gloves.
🧵11/28
#4. Az-Tech Trial.
#4. Az-Tech Trial [7.5/10]
While it’s not my favorite Astro Bot-franchise jungle level (thanks to Astro’s Playroom’s jungle world) this is still good. I love the choice to wait to start the music for when you open that first door, and it’s a catchy, banger track too!
🧵10/28
My only issue here are the minions. Not at the beginning lead-up, those are fine: I mean the minions during the boss fight that Chewy spits out are too easy to defeat. If you’re going to take a cliched trope, at least make it fun.
Visually, the level is neon, great choice to set it at night.
🧵9/28
Mighty Chewy getting beat up from inside his mouth.
Mighty Chewy holding a cracked, tilted platform Astro is sliding off of.
The actual boss itself is also good, I love the brutal way you end up defeating him, I like the building walls you have to charge through the windows of and there’s some other great aspects of the floor below you crushing! It’s a boss that does a great job at taking advantage of the power up.
