My mom’s dad also had a brief career as a prize fighter during the Great Depression. However he settled into other careers at the behest of his older brothers. There may have been a fistfight involved.
Dad’s Side: WW2 Artillery Veteran (Pacific Theater), settled down to become an auto parts salesman.
Mom’s Side: Welder in a shipyard, went on to be a union ironworker and foreman. Was very proud of his work on the Tappan Zee bridge.
