I'm a bit disappointed. I thought the piece would give an update on how the protagonists are doing 30+ years later, or at least review the film a bit more. It was a surprising and interesting look into this part of Japanese culture for many people when it came out.

Most who get power/money by being in government want to stay there more than to help people. All of the things in the original post would be great. But with a two-party/non-ranked voting system, the electoral college, and the hold of billionaires and Super PACs on the government, we're screwed.

I see every new piece of art or fiction as a small miracle. We live in a society where most people’s time is eaten up just trying to survive and pay the bills. We are told art has little value. Yet artists persevere and still find ways to create. That’s incredible.

I believe my cat sees me as warm, entertaining, a good massager, a loving if flawed caretaker, and unfortunately slow and forgetful about important things (like mealtimes). Seems about right.
