What you need to know about the U.S. war on Iran Quaker action for a just world

β€œAs a Quaker organization, we know that war is never the path to peace."

Westminster Meeting House raided by Metropolitan Police again. Statement: β€œFor Quakers, faith and action are inseparable. Peaceful protest, prayer and nonviolent action are integral parts of many Quakers' religious life.

Whilst we take the planning of criminal acts very seriously, we believe that this incident is a deliberate targeting of committed young people who want to make our country a more equitable place. This raid is part of a systematic stifling of dissent.

That this is the second time in a year that the police have raided our meeting house dramatically illuminates the broader trend in the UK of cracking down on those who disagree with the government. The right to protest is fundamental to our democracy. It's a key part of how people make their voices heard between elections.” – Oliver Robertson, Head of Witness and Worship

A sheet of ice covers the Schuylkill River, as seen from the commuter rail bridge. There are patterns in the ice and some cracks. Trees are on both banks of the river. The background is obscured by mist. The sky is a uniform light gray.

In 1775, 24 men met in a Philadelphia tavern. That meeting led to ending slavery in America.

What is now the Pennsylvania Abolitionist Society was founded by Quaker leaders who wanted to make it unlawful to sell Black people into slavery on free soil.

At electric car chargers in the winter time, it can take hours to charge a battery from 10% to 100%. So you end up waiting for hours just to plug in. They should have a line for short charges-say, under 30 minutes, just like there is a grocery checkout line for people who only have 10 items.

Thank you for posting the YT link!

In the 1980s my local library in Central NJ had a vinyl LP of Eliot reading this, Prufrock, and other poems. Hardly a month goes by where I don't quote one line or another, especially:
"Frisch weht der Wind
der Heimat zu
Mein Irisch Kind,
Wo weilest du?"
