Wow thanks for the info. Scotty and Toller Cranston were the first skaters I really followed. Off to do some research.
Me too. Taika W (Iβm not trying to spell that from memory) has a really unique take on his subjects. I had to stop trying to correct the show and just watch it.
I donβt think any pirate was nice. he had a reputation as the βGentleman Pirateβ because, I assume he was raised as a gentleman and the manners somehow prevailed even after he became a pirate. I think he qualified as eccentric.
And probably most of all - there is still cheating in the FS judging. I did love how the other skater rallied around Evan and Madi after the dance results.
Most important memory I will cherish was all the kindness I saw. And Jackie seemed to live at the rink to report everything!
- indelible memory: Ilia going over to Shaidorov to congratulate him on his win. Spontaneous and comforting
- Amber protecting Kaori from the camera while she dealt with her emotions
- Alysa encouraging Ami to celebrate, and cry, when Ami realized she medaled
Was so fixated on figure skating in the Olympics, I didnβt do my usual sampling of other sports. I missed the Jamaican bobsledding. After all the controversy I did love most of the results in FS
- so much kindness and respect among the skaters
Yep thatβs the one. I thought it was hilarious.
After this series, my brother, who lives in Myrtle Beach, took a trip down to Charleston and took a picture of the park where Stede and his crew were hung.
Life is so strange sometimes!
He was so bad at it they kicked him out. He was enjoying himself so he started his own pirate gang. Apparently in the Carolinas he is a legend.
what a way to start the day.
He offered to take me down and show me where the old pirate was hanged.
Not a name I expected to see in a contemporary murder mystery book. Or an HBO series.
He ran away from his island plantation to join Blackbeardβs pirate crew
Stede Bonnet, the guy who had the craziest midlife crisis ever. My dadβs family is from West Virginia. They are notorious for their eccentricities and wild sense of humor. I first heard about Stede, the pirate, when I met my Uncle John when I was 18.
Ok the world is seriously weird - in a good kind of way,
Iβm reading a cozy mystery and my eyes stumble over two words. Picture coyote skidding to a stop. I blink and back up and find that I did, indeed, read the name of an ancestor in this book
Thank you for all the work you put into these events. Itβs nice to know Iβm not alone in my reactions to some of the results. I hope you catch up on sleep and thank you again for sharing your expertise. Enjoy your downtime!
All the rowdy English boys. I donβt think the minders were ready for them. It was a great time, with many hangovers
Robin of Sherwood is on Prime. 1984 version with Michael Praed. I Love this show with all its mysticism and all the young actors.
I met the cast (well most of it) at a con in Seattle and then Mark Ryan (Nasir) again when he began to work with a local comic book writer.
So curious. It must be like running after a herd of mountain climbing kindergartners.
Thanks for all the pictures.
Alysa gets gold, Kaori silver and Ami bronze.
Amber fought her way up to 5th.
Congrats to the Japanese team!
I say it to myself every time I see them β I love those little Zamboni.
Missed the first group of skaters. Wow this second group is skating so well!
This is what theyβll remember a great free skate and a wonderful audience.
This is why I watch the Olympics.
Figure skating scoring can be confusing, especially scoring the short program. Author Courtney Milan lays out the way it is in a clear manner in this thread. Be sure to read all

Ooh Amber, you tried too hard. You are still our forever Amber.
The ladies have all my admiration for their toughness and grace.
The ladies are wonderful. They look like they are having funand they are skating so well!
What the heck is going on with the men?
Too much menning!
Hard agree
Oops sorry L/B. π€
I like F/B and always look for her red hair. Theyβve been working their way up and I was hoping for a top 3 placement next year. Not going to happen now. I just hope they donβt decide to retire.
Yeah, they were so excited. So glad they went back to the Vincent program. They deserved a medal.
Yeah when they gave them the rhythm dance. Still reeling from that. Iβm so angry right now.
Happy for the Canadians to medal though.
Yes, I miss Keegan and Jason, and Nathan and Yuzu. And you know what else, I miss seeing Brian Orser at the boards cheering on all his skaters.
Menβs was good. Nice to see Frenchmen funneling their emotions fuel their skates. Japanese really challenging Ilia. Hopefully will push him to make his other elements as good as his jumps.
Audience was great and I am one happy lady with the quality of the skating and adequate judging.
