Asian Golden Cat (Catopuma temminckii) Asian Golden Cat in July 2013 by James Eaton

I've had raptors come in numerous times to passerine calls, even Blyth's Hawk Eagle in interior forest. Though best of all was a Golden Cat I taped in to Red-billed Partridge in Sumatra, it ended up flushing the birds into the canopy too: www.inaturalist.org/observations...

Didn't you get the memo, being a nerd is a sign of coolness now. Foldaway camera waistcoat works a treat!

I usually carry a camera vest or regular coat with big pockets, so if weighed I throw stuff in pockets- no weight restriction if it's actually on it seems! I even had my scope in a pocket once, half sticking out.

Incredibly frustrating the first two tests were our prep it seems, Ashes could have been sound much more exciting, like today.

Those rump feathers are exquisite, Mark. Lovely.

As distinctive as humei is, ssp mandellii (winters Thailand for example) at this season I can rarely separate from YBW unless vocalising. Even some humei in India, something about the temperate, UK gloom brings out the subtle differences better.

Just a bizarre disjunct population of the buzzard. Did you read that White-eyed Buzzard has even been photographed there. No idea how it ended up there.

I must have seen tens of thousands of needletails and yet to see a single one go to, or emerge from, roost!

First time you've found one?

I had it down as coast road between Newlyn and Lamorna for the photo in late am. But originally we had it at Trengwainton Carn before that.

The Ceyx seems to only have the narrowest of intergrade zones too (if at all). Borneo will end up with close to 100 endemics at this rate! There's also a couple of cryptic undescribed species coming soon

Right... exactly how I remember! It was all very exciting!

I can still vividly remember it circling low, right over the road in Cornwall. Can't remember exactly where however, somewhere around Drift - can you?

Pair of scissors, cut out the notches, what's fine then - mine's actually a little loose now.

Pallas's Grasshopper Warbler at home

Pallas's Grasshopper Warbler at home

A few migrant passerines cling on as long as possible in their non-breeding grounds, my garden wintering Pallas's Gropper has been showing exceptionally well this week as it readies itself to head back north. Thick-billed Warbler still here too!

Superb - I so rarely see them actually feeding. Was it clucking too? Such a unique bird.
