Assuming a country punishes the driver with severe fines, permanent withdrawal of the driving licence and imprisonment:
Would anyone seriously claim that the strict penalty regime makes driving in that country an unmanageable risk for motorists?

... each time killing or injuring several people and causing massive havoc, without ever braking or calling for help, and systematically refusing to cooperate with the authorities afterwards.
...=>
7/10
Unlikely that gas & oil industry lawyers haven't noticed this. What these lobbies do is unfounded scaremongering.
An analogy makes this point clearer: Incurring the max penalty would be akin to ... repeatedly driving drunk at 120 km/h through an extended pedestrian zone ...
=>
6/10 This can't happen by mistake. Companies can easily avoid to incur in those conditions by making even a limited effort to mitigate methane emissions. In the unlikely case fines are set at a maximum level unlawfully, they can be challenged in court.
...=>
5/10 To incur in the max penalty the breach should be
1) unequivocally intentional 2) exceptionally serious with persisting effects
The company responsible would need to 3) do nothing to mitigate/remedy damage 4) repeated infringements 5) display full lack of collaboration with authorities
...
4/10 The EU-MER requires that MS authorities imposing fines must consider a series of aggravating & mitigating factors, shown on the right side of this chart.
For an infringement to incur in the maximum penalty, every aggravating factor would need to be proven at its highest severity.
...=>
3/10 Implicit argument: EU oil & gas importers can't take measures under their control to avoid the risk of incurring in such high fines, exposing them and their suppliers to unsustainable risks, impacting Europeโs energy security.
If true, it would be a serious concern.
But it's NOT true.
...=>
2/10 Focus on debunking the liability myth: fossil fuel lobbies loudly & repeatedly claimed that the EU-MER's "disproportionate non-compliance penalty provisions" cause "unamanageable" / "severe liability risks", often pointing to the maximum fine level set at 20% of annual turnover.

Can anyone imagine his current successor speaking such a polite language, even just for a minute? And I guess if somebody would make a survey among MAGAs to ask when they think America was great, Ike's era might get a good share of votes...

๐Achieving these goals affordably requires EU-wide infrastructure planning, smart use of green molecules where they are most needed, stronger circularity, and a massive expansion of domestic renewables and energy storage capacities.
5/7
๐ As the #energytransition advances, the core energy security issues shift to power system stability, cybersecurity and industrial resilience.
๐ Unlike fossil fuel supply security, the EU can meet these goals largely through domestic policies.
4/7
๐The EU spent โฌ 1.3 trillions on fossil fuel imports in just three years (2022-24). Thereby funding foreign, and often adversarial, actors.
๐A renewables-based system built on domestic capital stock is inherently more resilient than the legacy system reliant on fossil fuel imports.
3/7
โKey takeaway: decarbonisation and energy security reinforce each other, if Europe adopts a forward-looking, adaptive strategy.
๐The EU should rethink energy security in light of increasingly renewable, decentralised and electrified energy systems.

Deeply disturbing rhetoric is spreading from influential MAGA figures (including the President of the United States and the owner of that other website). They have no idea who the shooter is, and many of these same people mocked Democrats when they were victims of political violence in the past. 1/
How do any lawyers or legal commentators still say the Supreme Court majority believes โunity executive theoryโ and rules according to that interpretation?
You witnessed years of the same Justices restricting a president only to do the opposite when the White House changed hands.
Why help the lie?
the recent drop in the share of collected data appears "just" 3-4 times larger than the temporarily drop in March 2020. What event could have caused the latter ๐ค? Could be a rough benchmark for how bad the current administration is
Please remind news media parroting US government inflation statements that those are just Trump regime fantasy numbers since May.
