It is unclear whether one particular photo — or the sum total of the shots on March 2 — led to consternation among Hegseth’s staff. When photographers showed up to the Pentagon for the next briefing on March 4 they were not allowed in the building.

Dozens of U.S. service members in Kuwait suffered serious injuries, including burns, brain trauma and shrapnel wounds, sources say About 30 U.S. service members remained hospitalized Tuesday after an Iranian drone strike in Kuwait.

That deadly attack on US service members also left "dozens w/ injuries including brain trauma, shrapnel wounds and burns. At least one may require the amputation of a limb."

More than 30 are hospitalized.

And credit where due: This is a strong story from CBS News.

AI Isn’t Lightening Workloads. It’s Making Them More Intense. The technology is increasing the speed, density and complexity of work rather than reducing it, a new analysis of 164,000 people’s work activity shows.

"Meanwhile, the amount of time AI users devoted to focused, uninterrupted work—the kind of concentration often required for figuring out complex problems, writing formulas, creating and strategizing—fell 9%, compared with nearly no change for nonusers." Gift link while I tear my hair out!!!!

Congress approved $3.4 billion in taxpayer funding for ICE detention in FY 2024, a $500 million increase over the prior year. The 2025 federal spending law added another $191 billion to DHS for immigration enforcement and detention expansion.

In FY 2021, GEO Group and CoreCivic each earned roughly $551–552 million from ICE contracts alone. Both companies successfully lobbied the federal government in the 1980s to expand detention.

Our immigration court system simply cannot be impartial nor effective as long as it remains under the DOJ and the executive branch. That’s why I’ve introduced a bill with @raskin.house.gov, @hankjohnson.house.gov, and @repdangoldman.bsky.social to create an independent immigration court system.

Nick Clegg Doesn’t Want to Talk About Superintelligence After leaving Meta last year, the former deputy prime minister of the UK is charting a new path in the AI industry that has nothing to do with AGI.

Nick Clegg, former president of global affairs at Meta, has a lot to say about tech under the Trump admin ("endless ring-kissing"), the EU's AI regulation ("a ludicrous act of self-harm"), and much more.
