It is unclear whether one particular photo — or the sum total of the shots on March 2 — led to consternation among Hegseth’s staff. When photographers showed up to the Pentagon for the next briefing on March 4 they were not allowed in the building.

I'm proud to have received a 97% on @lcv.org’s annual environmental scorecard. In Congress, I'm fighting to preserve California's natural beauty for our children and grandchildren and to ensure every American has access to clean air and clean water.
That deadly attack on US service members also left "dozens w/ injuries including brain trauma, shrapnel wounds and burns. At least one may require the amputation of a limb."
More than 30 are hospitalized.
And credit where due: This is a strong story from CBS News.

The financial architecture of immigration detention is a policy story in its own right. Who profits, who pays, and who bears the human cost are all worth understanding. More at austinkocher.substack.com
Congress approved $3.4 billion in taxpayer funding for ICE detention in FY 2024, a $500 million increase over the prior year. The 2025 federal spending law added another $191 billion to DHS for immigration enforcement and detention expansion.
In FY 2021, GEO Group and CoreCivic each earned roughly $551–552 million from ICE contracts alone. Both companies successfully lobbied the federal government in the 1980s to expand detention.
As of January 2025, private companies managed all 20 of the top 20 immigration detention facilities by average daily population. 86% of all ICE detainees are held in for-profit facilities.
Most people don't realize how much of the U.S. immigration detention system is run by private companies and how much money is involved. 🧵
Our immigration court system simply cannot be impartial nor effective as long as it remains under the DOJ and the executive branch. That’s why I’ve introduced a bill with @raskin.house.gov, @hankjohnson.house.gov, and @repdangoldman.bsky.social to create an independent immigration court system.
NEW: DOD employees are being pressured to volunteer to help with DHS's immigration crackdown. The work includes things like: “developing concepts of operation and campaign plans to execute internal arrests and raids as well as patrols along the Southwest Border”

During that time people in Canada were crying to PM Trudeau instead of the provinces who are actually responsible for fire fighting.
Now we are at the end of the line.

NEW: A former DOGE employee allegedly stole Americans' personal data from two large databases at the Social Security Administration, according to a new report.
The former employee allegedly put the databases on a thumb drive and wanted to use them at their new contractor job.
A spokesperson for the Social Security Administration, which is still under control by DOGE, denied that a former employee stole data on U.S. citizens. The spokesperson said the Washington Post was “desperate for clicks and eager to publish fake news to scare seniors.” The inspector general’s office; which is independent from the Trump administration, did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Thank you @lorenzofb.bsky.social for accurately reporting that the Social Security Administration is *still* under the control of DOGE. This information is needed for the story to make sense.
