Modern fare collection, who wouldn've thought? But seriously, this will speed up boarding substantially, making service faster and more dependable. And the "ambassadors" to help people understand the system when it first launches are a great touch.

That sidewalks are a public good is why they should be publicly maintained. We don’t ask folks to plow or fill potholes on the road in front of their house. Why do we expect them to clear and repair the sidewalk?

Protests are always during toddler nap time haha
I like the new Pittsburgh airport terminal in general but this is a bad bus stop — furthest end of the curb, minimal shelter from wind, no good way to wait indoors and watch for the bus. Bus stops should be a part of the design, not an afterthought.
🚘The car industry promised freedom. Instead, it gave us traffic, pollution, and massively deadly roads. So, now what?

Reminds me of this sign from Philly
It felt a bit silly to begin a story about highway removal with half a dozen highways they don’t want to remove
Imagine the traffic calamity if those two cars had to take a different route
Relics of our car-centric past could be converted into pedestrian-friendly parkland...

Yeah. It’s a realigned 7th street between WW and Broad St. You have to go in to the absurd virtual meeting room and watch a video to see it though.

Here’s an actual image from a PennDOT proposal in south Philly where they want to put an interchange _above_ 95. Real Hot Wheels shit
Why are dems agreeing to any budget without transit? It just seems like we’re kicking the can two years down the road at which point it will once again be a crisis except with our transit agencies in an even worse place from having drawn from capital funds. Fight now while there’s breathing room
This is great to see. Would love to get Shady from 5th to Penn next.
The pharmacist at the CVS I tried at said to check back in a day or two and they’d probably have caught up with the new rules.

Potentially GREAT news out of SPC’s Active Transportation Forum this morning. The redesign of the Squirrel Hill interchange COULD include protected bike/ped connections to both sides of the interchange and on to Greenfield and The Run. 1/2
The link above details that Abington’s cameras are not managed by the _Philadelphia_ Parking Authority

Abington outside of Philly has them along Old York Rd which is PA 611.

I haven’t seen any reporting to that and it’s not a general limitation of red light cameras in PA. Philly has multiple red light cameras set up at intersections of state routes.

A map of Pittsburgh focused on CMU. It shows Forbes Ave in white with a pink outline through campus.
Legend for the previous map. It shows white with a pink outline represents “multi-lane highway”.
A different map of the same section of Forbes Ave. This map depicts the route in yellow, representing being part of Pittsburgh’s high injury network.
I would hope they’re not skipping state routes as a bunch of the high injury network is state routes. What PennDOT considers a “highway” is very different from an interstate highway. Forbes through CMU is a “multi-lane highway” and also on the high injury network.

Crashes down, fatalities unchanged: Car crashes in Pittsburgh have decreased by nearly one-third since 2021, while fatal crashes have remained constant during that period. In 2024, Mayor Ed Gainey announced Vision Zero, an initiative to eliminate traffic fatalities. Don’t know where 8 is coming from. More like 21. www.post-gazette.com/news/transpo...
why are we posting signs or giving ppl who are caught running red lights 60 days of freebies?? running red lights is illegal, everybody with a driver's license knows it's illegal, it's not less illegal or less dangerous if you think nobody is watching. what the fuck are we doing here
Ban cars
A satellite view of a large triangular intersection with a fountain in the middle. One of the paths has been crudely scribbled out leaving a more orthogonal t-intersection.
You think turning this little part of S Whitfield between the library and the fountain is on any plan? Seems like you get a lot of nice real estate in front of a library and all you lose is like 4 parking spaces and a slip lane on a lightly traveled road. A crosswalk across Baum would be great too.
drivers will be like "how come cyclists are allowed to break traffic laws but I'm not???" and then proceed to break all the traffic laws 🚲🏙️
