Sitting here trying to compose myself.
When The Cranes Fly South is the most beautiful book I have ever read.
You know what you sign up for as you start but still I wasn't ready.
This one will sit with me for a while
With a small break in reading, I started picking up books again towards the end of the year, every single one of these was an absolute banger.
Biggest shout out to 'All The Colours of The Dark' my personal favourite.
Already so many on my to-read list for next year.
Christopher and Mal are delightful characters, with Mal providing that exciting fiery determination of youth I last felt in 'His Dark Materials' with Lyra.
I look forward to the second book in the series to see how this world builds and expands.
Book two of my recent purchases, 'Impossible Creatures' by Katherine Russell.
A start that had left me wondering whether I would finish or shelve it, couldn't have made a bigger turn around in its second half to a fast paced, rollercoaster of emotion.
Both offered twist and turns and a no nonsense straight to it story presented as the case files of legendary sleuth Kindaichi.
Looking forward to picking up more of his translated works
A cosy afternoon in rainy Leicester transports me around the world to 1940's Japan.
A fantastic book comprising two short stories, written by Yokomizo, the titular Murder at Black Cat Cafe and Why did the Well Wheel Creak.
New (to me) book evening ✨, which to start with
CO:E33 refuses to pull punches and oh gosh do I love it for that.
Turns out sometimes things are bestsellers because they are in fact 'very good' silly me for trying to be all hipster 🤣.
All being said two days later I have just finished 'The Thursday Murder Club' and very much look forward to starting 'The Man Who Died Twice' and seeing what; Elizabeth, Joyce, Ron and Ibrahim get up to next.
Well, I was immediately drawn in by the story, its wit and its charm and the characters within and would read passages that hit so close to home about whether we are 'lonely or alone'.
But after regularly watching and enjoying episodes of Osman's podcast 'The rest is entertainment' and having a spare Tuesday evening not wishing to play League or Overwatch, or indeed anything else in my ever growing backlog, I thought I would finally pick it up off the shelf and give it a go.
I had put off reading 'The Thursday Murder Club' because I thought it was just too popular, surely it couldn't be anything special.
I love the gvlogs, however the camera face-tracking during the parts in your office were really off-putting to me for some reason
