BWDR recently lost a partnership that covered nearly half our operating budget, so things are suddenly very tough. If what we do has ever meant something to you, or youβve ever thought about subscribing, nowβs the timeβit *truly* makes a difference.
The only honest answer for me.
Josh (@tesseractcinema.bsky.social) and my friendship has orbited independent theaters in every city we've lived in. His return to Chicago to build a space that offers community is something I'm excited to be involved in from afar and more excited to be an audience member in every chance I get.
Gunn's Superman is a joy. It's ambitious and messy in the same way Clark is in the era we meet him. A rare occasion where I wish we had another hour to hang out. I left the theater wanting a feature-length Daily Planet screwball romcom more than anything.
Catch me crying at the @academymuseum.bsky.social's Bong Joon Ho exhibit.

We returned in 2002 to watch the sequels.
Completely agree, it radiates the comfy & cozy vibes.
"You're Gonna Miss That Plane" has been over my desk for years, it's one of my favorite pieces.
The film community has a lot of disagreements and bad takes, but I appreciate that we can come together once a year to rally against motion smoothing
AMERICAN MOVIE is so many things and hits differently every single time.
Tonight, it was a magnificent lil' wrecking ball.

Vinegar Syndrome dropping a Michael Mann turkey day miracle.
Working my way through 2024 releases I missed in theaters and was shook by THELMA. Sweet and sincere with an honesty that warmed the soul. Lovely performances, Squibb and Hechinger's moments especially got me, and some stylistic direction from Margolin to boot.
anime food just hits different
You all MOCKED George Lucas and said this was boring or dumb but whoβs laughing now???
Hey new followers: Here's a reminder about The Reveal, the movies newsletter I co-write with @scotttobias.bsky.social. We offer a robust mix of reviews, essays, lists and more. Some of it is free, some for paid subscribers and it's those subscriptions that keep us going. (That's a subtle nudge.)
