What is en pointe? En pointe is where ballet dancers (traditionally women) stand on their toes.
Despite what you may have heard, there's no wood in the end. Pointe shoes today are made from paste and fabric to support the dancer - there are years of training before a dancer can begin en pointe.
Giselle is one of the oldest complete ballets we have a record of - and it's also roughly around the same time dancing en pointe was created!
