Participants from our Older Adult Services program attended LiveOn NY's 3rd Annual Queens Aging Advocacy Day at Queens Borough Hall on Tuesday. They joined hundreds of older adults and advocates from across Queens to call for fair funding and stronger support for older New Yorkers.

Longtime Queens lawmaker Catherine Nolan dies at 67 — Queens Daily Eagle Catherine Nolan, who represented Queens in the State Assembly for nearly four decades, passed away on Wednesday, one day before what would have been her 68th birthday.

She was a great friend of Riis Settlement and a steadfast advocate for our work and the communities we serve. Our sincere condolences go out to her family and loved ones.

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Assembly Member Cathy Nolan, who served Queens’ 37th District for decades. A trailblazer for women in the state legislature, Cathy was a dedicated official who fought tirelessly for the residents of western Queens.

Our Older Adult Center celebrated Black History Month yesterday with a lively event! We enjoyed wonderful dances performed by Dances for a Variable Population. Their performance, “Queensbridge, A Joyful Village,” honored Miriam Makeba.
