Nonsense. If we reach true austerity, the economy really tanks, people will definitely start protesting in big numbers. This is just not comparable to the US today. And this was 1% of the population, so not really a national strike.
They are protesting against austerity. Funny how people come out when their pocketbooks are impacted. Not the situation - yet - here. Hell of a lot easier to have a "national strike" with a population of 11 M in a dense area than in the US with a geographically spread out population of 342M.
