My favorite thing about AI book club scams is that LLMs ate the entire internet's worth of text but never once told their users, "Hey, authors have no money."

I mean, it was kind of obvious the attraction there was saving on costs. So yeah, the time gained (supposedly) with AI would obviously not be free time. It would be time for more work.

If you're working in the AI space, you need to be pushing for universal basic income RIGHT NOW. It's not good enough to just say UBI may be needed in the future. And put your money where your mouth is, or else people will assume you're lying about the capabilities of AI and/or will push against AI.

Today, I am mostly carrying out a gender reassignment on a non-existent dog because an author couldn't make up his mind. Every day is a new adventure when you're a copy editor.

This is the first I'm hearing of these events. Still, it's not like it's important or relevant to people, not like when that flag-shagger fell off a ladder the other week. That was all over the news.

This will sound stupid, but I had a frightening dream overnight and now I'm worried that I'll be scared of heights. They've never bothered me because my grandparents lived on the sixth floor of a tower block and I used to enjoy standing on the balcony. But after last night, I think that's changed.

It’s the 75th anniversary of a man in Dundee called David Law creating the β€œworld’s wildest boy”, who lived in the pages of The Beano, and later that same year acquired a stripy jumper which he never again took off – and in 1968 got a dog as disciplined as its owner: Gnasher 🧡

My friend Kelly has a similar checklist when opening the pub, only hers involves more coffee and omits the last item. It's usually down to me to turn the sign round - often as late as two hours after they open. Most people stroll in anyway, and they all laugh when I turn the sign on my way in.

Wondering, instead of the standard procedure of including quotes by celebs and newspapers on the jacket of my next book, printing a selection of comments and reviews by readers on there instead. I think this one is an absolute must.

Denmark Just Switched to Red Streetlights to Solve an Urban Crisis Most Modern Cities Still Ignore Drivers in Denmark are facing a surreal sight as a primary corridor is suddenly bathed in an intense, unearthly red light.

Gladsaxe replaced its standard white LED fixtures with specialized red LED streetlights along Frederiksborgvej. The installation was strategically placed near a known bat colony to mitigate the impact of artificial light on the nocturnal ecosystem. dailygalaxy.com/2026/03/denm...

3.6 Relationships
As discussed in Section 3.5, for many participants, the basic income increased their ability to socialise and take part in activities with others, and this was perceived to have improved their relationships. Furthermore, participants frequently recounted spending their basic income on others and financially supporting them when they were struggling:
β€˜I was more willing to go out and do things and, you know, sometimes cover people's bills, and it just being able to do that, you know, it did... it made me happy.’ (YP62 - End of Pilot)
β€˜...it's indirectly helped my family at points as well at some points when I was on the income pilot, because there was points where my eldest brother was really struggling because he wasn't on much money with Universal Credit, and he was barely getting by each month, so he started asking to lend off money, but then my mum couldn't help as much or my sister, because they were struggling themselves, so I was able to help...’ (YP89 - End of Pilot)
For the participants offering these examples, there was clearly a sense that being able to support those around them in this way was rewarding; they valued being able to spend on their loved ones. As one participant put it, being fortunate to be on the pilot meant β€œ...you want to give as someone who hasn't had” (YP51 - End of Pilot).

Mary Wollstonecraft: the radical thinker who shaped modern feminism Mary Wollstonecraft argued women were rational beings deserving education, independence and freedom – ideas still contested today

Mary Wollstonecraft, who published A Vindication of the Rights of Woman in 1792, is often called the mother of modern feminism.

But her ideas were far more radical than many realise.

Love this experience by one of the basic income pilot participants in Wales. They got Β£1,290 a month after tax for two years (about $1,862/mo), and at first they planned to not get a job, but then after getting into the pilot, they changed their mind, because why not do more to get more money?
