Trailer for Action Movie 'Desert Warrior' with Mackie, Copley, Kingsley "How do you beat an empire?" "We fight this battle together." Vertical has revealed an official trailer for the movie Desert Warrior, an action thriller set in ancient Arabia, made by filmmaker Rupert Wyatt. This was filmed a while ago in Saudi Arabia but has been struggling to get a final theatrical release until this year - apparently the director even briefly left due to "creative differences" during post-production but then returned to finish editing it before its recent premiere at the Zurich Film Festival last year. Arabia was full of disparate, feuding tribes in the seventh century, one of which was led by the Iranian Emperor Kisra. After he comes across the Arabian Princess Hind, Kisra attempts to make her his concubine. Hind refuses, however, and escapes with an unknown warrior. It's a feminist tale of a woman fighting back against a patriarchal world. Sound fun? "Rupert has delivered a thrilling, dynamic film, brought to life by Anthony, Aiysha, and an exceptional international cast & crew." Desert Warrior stars Anthony Mackie, Aiysha Hart, Sharlto Copley, and Sir Ben Kingsley, along with Ghassan Massoud, Sami Bouajila, Lamis Ammar, Géza Röhrig, Numan Acar. Shark Movie 'Thrash' Trailer with Phoebe Dynevor & Djimon Hounsou "If the flood doesn't kill you, what lies beneath will." Netflix has revealed the first official trailer for a shark movie called Thrash, formerly known as Shiver, which has been pushed up for a release starting in April in less than a month from now. Netflix is dropping this scary thriller about sharks in a hurricane this spring before the summer movie season. Thrash is the latest from Norwegian genre filmmaker Tommy Wirkloa, known for Dead Snow 1 & 2, Hansel & Gretel: Witch Hunters, Violent Night. When a Category 5 hurricane decimates a coastal town, the storm surge brings devastation, chaos and something far more frightening: hungry sharks. Similar to other shark movies like Crawl and Bait. Producer Adam McKay explains: "More and more, you're hearing marine biologists acknowledge that climate is changing where these sharks go. It’s changing how they behave. So, in as much as this is an edge-of-your-seat popcorn film, the science behind it is not implausible." Strand Releasing debuted the official trailer for a documentary film titled Our Land, a fascinating new doc from Argentinian filmmaker Lucrecia Martel. This originally premiered last year at the 2025 Venice Film Festival and it also screened at the Toronto, London, San Sebastian, Vancouver, New York, and Chicago Film Festivals. Acclaimed Argentinean filmmaker Lucrecia Martel (known for Zama, The Headless Woman) takes a sweeping approach to this tragic true story, triangulating the murder trial of 3 men, the lives of activist Chocobar and his fellow Chuchagasta people, and the centuries-old, colonialist legacy of land and property theft across Latin America. It's a comprehensive look at this specific case and the court proceedings in Argentina as they try to get justice for what happened to one of the locals. Martel adds: "This film addresses our mother tongue's racist mechanisms, which deny many access to vital space. The language of documents — lives lost to dubious papers and futile bureaucracy. Watch: Daniel Blumberg Scoring the 'Pompei: Below the Clouds' Doc Take a listen. Mubi has debuted a fascinating new making of featurette for the film titled Pompei: Below the Clouds, the latest compelling observational documentary by the Italian filmmaker Gianfranco Rosi. It's an 8 minute look at Oscar winning composer Daniel Blumberg crafting this very unique lo-fi score, comprised more of sounds than melodies. The film initially premiered at the 2025 Venice Film Festival last year, under the name Sotto le nuvole (just Below the Clouds) to many excellent reviews (view the trailer) and acclaim. It's a special cinematic B&W portrait of life in the city of Naples, Italy in the south. Naples is a city forever marked by the looming presence of Mount Vesuvius (which destroyed Pompeii back in 79 AD). Beneath the quiet threat of eruption, people go about their days: archaeologists unearth the past, children learn as the earth hums, firefighters wait for the next call. "Below the clouds lies a territory criss-crossed by inhabitants, worshippers, tourists and archaeologists excavating the past — and by those who, in museums, strive to give new life and meaning to statues, fragments and ruins." Katarina Zhu Tries Work as a Cam Girl in 'Bunnylovr' Indie Film Trailer "Are you gonna see him again?" Utopia has revealed a trailer for the indie drama titled Bunnylovr, which premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival in the main US Dramatic competition. It later played at other fests including Rooftop Films, Munich, Sidewalk, and a few others. Based on her own personal experiences, Bunnylovr is written and directed by and stars newcomer Katarina Zhu in her feature directorial debut. A cam girl navigates a toxic client relationship while reconnecting with her estranged, dying father, exploring complex relationships and family dynamics. Sundance adds: "Zhu's nuanced, nonjudgmental approach to sex work and her vulnerable performance ground Bunnylovr's vision of a precarious social world, in which intimacy is mediated & commodified, and family is fragmented across blood relations and chosen bonds." This new Man on Fire stars Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as the titular "Man on Fire", John Creasy, a former elite mercenary with PTSD. This new one seems to take place mostly down in Brazil. The series follows John Creasy, a wounded former mercenary on a quest to get revenge for the loss of his only companion while defending the daughter of his dead colleague from the forces that tore her family apart. The action-packed thriller series launches April 30th. Also starring Billie Boullet, Bobby Cannavale, Alice Braga, Scoot McNairy, and Paul Ben-Victor. Based on A.J. Quinnell's book series, which was adapted a few times before: into the 1987 movie starring Scott Glenn as Creasy & again in 2004 starring Denzel Washington and Dakota Fanning. Netflix has unveiled the first look teaser trailer for an enchanting new film titled Remarkably Bright Creatures, which is indeed adapted from the the book of the same name by Shelby Van Pelt. Set for a streaming release in May in just a few months from now. Through unlikely bonds formed during night shifts at a local aquarium, Tova, an elderly widow, learns of a life-changing discovery that may bring her joy and wonder once again. "Readers of the book will know that the narrator is not actually human, but rather a giant Pacific octopus named Marcellus who forms an unlikely bond with the cleaning lady at the aquarium where he is housed." Netflix has announced that Alfred Molina is the voice of Marcellus the octopus as heard in this teaser. Remarkably Bright Creatures also stars Sally Field as Tova, Lewis Pullman, Colm Meaney, Joan Chen, Kathy Baker, Beth Grant, and Sofia Black D’Elia. Sumerian has unveiled the first official trailer for the Canadian coming-of-age comedy called Mile End Kicks, the second feature film written and directed by filmmaker Chandler Levack. Her feature debut was I Like Movies from 2022, this one is a similar follow-up but with a different spin. Barbie Ferreira plays Grace Pine, a 20-something music critic from Toronto who decides to upend her life and move to Montreal to cover the music scene there. But she romantically involved with two members of the same indie band she is covering. It takes place in Quebec's vibrant indie music scene in 2011. A bright romantic comedy featuring Barbie Ferreira as Grace, all about a young woman figuring out life and love while partying in Montreal. The cast includes Devon Bostick, Stanley Simons, Juliette Gariépy, and Jay Baruchel. I saw this last year at TIFF and alas I'm not a fan - it starts out interesting, but then she starts making such grating & strange choices it quickly becomes something else. Black Bear has revealed the official trailer for the action comedy movie In The Grey, another new Guy Ritchie movie to watch in theaters soon. Last year he released Fountain of Youth which was a huge flop. This movie was made before and it originally was supposed to be done & released in 2025, but it was delayed then ultimately dropped by Lionsgate. Black Bear (also the producers) will give it a full release on their own in theaters starting in May. Two agents and a woman team up to get hold of millions of dollars in stolen money. But these extraction specialists must also plan a route of escape for the female negotiator while fleeing with all the cash. It was filmed entirely on the island of Tenerife in the Canary Islands, which you can tell from all of this footage since it just looks like the same place over & over. Ritchie's In The Grey stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Henry Cavill, Eiza González, Kristofer Hivju, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jason Wong, Michael Vu, with Fisher Stevens, Rosamund Pike, and Carlos Bardem. I'm not sure why Ritchie is making nothing but lackluster, forgettable action movies nowadays despite once being a good filmmaker.
