Watched @realgdt.bsky.social Frankenstein last night, I am still stunned today. Watched in a bijou, the crowd was in stunned silence. A friend's 14 year old girl was near tears "Someone needs to protect him!" And I think that speaks to the brilliance of the performance. Several tear streaked faces.

52 year old Matty is going just to say hello to an old friend.
I was SO happy I cried out and put my hand on his and told him he'd be okay and not to be afraid of the people.
He grunted in acknowledgement and and walked on.
4 year old me truly believed he was the Creature, the way normal kids believe in Mall Santas.
So anyway, threatened with leaving the park I moped and walked behind my parents very very angry.
And as I'm pouting and just being a grump, behind me this massive hand rests on my shoulder and gives me a pat.

My folks introduced me to a cartoonish "kid friendly" version who looked like a muppet and I was insulted. 4 year old Matty was NOT having that /at all/. I remember yelling that he wasn't real and if I remember, my mother was mortally embarrassed.
4 year old me wants to run to him because I believed he had "escaped the lab" and was wandering about. And I saw in the movie how people treated him.
THREE times, I broke away from my parents to run after The Creature. They would pick me up as as I would yell that he's alone and needs someone!
It was later in the day and we're walking through the park when I spotted *him*.
Walking among the crowds is a movie-accurate Frankenstein's Creation. The Monster. The Creature. To this day I remember my skin prickling like I was seeing something amazing.
