What gives us hope in these trying times is how Minnesotans have been showing up for each other.

Not only are the MNGOP complicit in this occupation, they also were directly responsible for bringing Nick Shirley to Minnesota that precipitated the occupation to begin with. Lisa Demuth, GOP Speaker of the House and candidate for gov, brought this to our doorstep. www.mprnews.org/story/2025/1...

Yesterday at a community event in Como we gathered about 200 folks who donated food and toiletries for vulnerable families. We distributed whistles. Kids made protest signs. We gathered about 15 stuffed carloads worth of donations to be distributed by the Saint Paul Federation of Educators.

The most productive of all these many replies AND it's from my state senator! #SD63pride

It’s not “inauthentic” to want our immigrant community to get direct support. You’re raising money off our community’s pain.

Here’s how to actually meet the moment:

–Support a housing fund
–Support a food drive
–Cover legal needs
–Tell DFL leadership to make caucuses virtual because it’s not safe

Hey, as a known authentic Minnesotan, I just want to let you know that I see a lot of other known authentic Minnesotans (including MN63 State Senator Zaynab Mohamed) telling you that this is a tone-deaf choice.

This is shockingly out of touch, please donate your money to the communities that are being attacked by masked federal agents.

Also, in-person precinct caucuses are a terrible idea, there are immigrant families who haven’t left their houses in weeks.

In an episode of #TheStakes in July 2025, Minnesota State Senator @zaynabmmohamed.bsky.social warned about what happens when leaders allow lies, conspiracy, and dehumanizing rhetoric to go unchecked.

A young lawmaker comes of age in Minneapolis, a city that keeps grieving State Sen. Zaynab Mohamed’s life and career have been shaped by George Floyd’s death, school shootings, a political assassination and a deadly ICE crackdown.

So much admiration for leaders like Zaynab Mohamed. She somehow finds a way to bring optimism during such dark times.
