I have no claims to pretentious that the work was noble. It was as appealing as Mr Collins's proposal to Lizzie.

There have been many good things about this year but the best thing that cannot quite equal anything is leaving the UK academia. You really get to see the egos growing disproportionately to the significance of people (small people problem and you know it).

Happy to share a new paper from research done during my postdoc. Drawing on interviews and surveys, this paper examines the relationships among experienced losses and damage, risk tolerance, and livelihood thresholds among farmers in East Gippsland, Australia.

Cover of Becoming Trustworthy White Allies by Melanie S. Morrison. The background features layered bands of warm orange, amber, and gold tones with a subtle textured pattern. The title is centered and spaced across three lines: βbecomingβ and βwhite alliesβ appear in bold white uppercase letters, while βtrustworthyβ is in a bright yellow serif font. The author's name is in small yellow text at the bottom.
In "Becoming Trustworthy White Allies," long-time antiracist facilitator Melanie S. Morrison outlines the actions white people must undertake to become partners in the work of racial justice. Read the intro for free now: buff.ly/4WC0oAq

Literally, this is not just an indictment of how bad the Morrison government was at making choices (as the Court strangely hinted at) and how things have marginally improved (it hasn't!!). There is a larger malady that courts must hurry to remedy, rather than shoo everyone to public advocacy.
From the sound of it, the Court has yet again washed its hands off from pursuing the simple radicality of duty of care in the Pabai Pabai v Commonwealth. This is tremendously disappointing but also expected that no Australian institution is ready for a second Mabo moment.
