NOTICE TO OUR COMMUNITY Update on Provincial Program Funding Kwe' to our community in Kjipuktuk and across Mi'kma'ki. Over the past day there have been announcements that the Province of Nova Scotia has restored funding to a number of community programs. We want to clarify that the Mikmaw Native Friendship Centre programs previously identified as facing reductions remain affected at this time. The following programs have not had their funding restored: • Family Resource Program • Youth Outreach Program • A Place to Belong Program • Funding previously received through L'nu Affairs We are grateful to see support reinstated for organizations and services that are important to many L'nu & Nova Scotians generally. However, our program funding has not been reinstated. Critical preventative supports for Indigenous youth and families - including justice system navigation, family support services, and work that helps address and prevent domestic violence - still remain in question and at risk. As previously shared, the loss of this funding means we continue to face staff layoffs and reduced service capacity, which places additional strain on the remaining programs and services delivered by the Centre. We remain committed to advocating for the restoration of these critical supports and will continue to keep our community informed. Wela'lioq for your continued trust. In Peace and Friendship Mikmaw Native Friendship Centre

Cuttell: So we keep making decisions to increase density because we are planning for the BRT to exist, but we have no funding for it, so like...? Anyways, what's going to have the biggest impact
(Me: reallocating lanes. the answer is reallocating lanes. Biggest impact for zero money)
A sweeping view over a forested Nova Scotia winter landscape from the vantage point of an industrial park under construction. There is an expansive, snow-covered field in the foreground that is designated for future industrial development. There are heavy machines working on a similar site behind it.
A brand-new street running through big, snow-covered industrial sites awaiting development. An asphalt multi-use path, which is well cleared of snow, runs parallel to the new street.
Another large, empty, snowy field with some heavy equipment and piles of rock in the background.
I went to take photos of a couple of big projects in outer Dartmouth. This is phase 13-1 of Burnside Industrial Park, developed by the municipality, where 120 acres of serviced land is being prepared for development.
I made a short video explainer of the Allen-Oak diverter debacle.
A case study of #CarBrain & driver entitlement. Of political pussyfooting. If infrastructure only works when drivers choose to follow the rules, it’s not safe infrastructure #ZeroVisionHFX #SafeStreets urbanists.video/w/jSp8sSpyiX...

Because a private vehicle for everyone going everywhere was never affordable, even before this.
Things that become even more essential when ⛽ goes up:
BRT & more bus lanes
Park & Ride, also using the bus lanes.
Tax rebates for all bicycles.
More micro mobility/bike lanes. Start with tactical.
Safer crosswalks, refuge Islands
Ok thanks. Hope they don't leave it too long before asking publicly for witnesses
The post has now been deleted but hope the police follow up, if reported
That's incredible congrats and thanks!
Wow. This street needs an emergency road diet badly, something tactical would be better than nothing
If you have any kind of disability and take the bus (even if just a few times a year!) please fill this out Halifax folks :)

I didn’t become a #SafeStreets advocate through ideology, but through experience. Drivers like this one parking on footpaths forcing me to push my kids in a stroller onto the road. Women are constantly told to think about safety in public spaces. Unsafe streets are a policy choice #VisionZero #IWD
video still image showing driver turning left on green approaching from behind the pedestrian, who is looking ahead. The vehicle is just a few feet away from the pedestrian, about to turn through the latter part of the crosswalk (image from HRM video report)
Key hazard: When turning left on green, drivers approach pedestrians in the latter part of the crosswalk from behind them, whilst looking ahead for conflicting vehicles travelling straight.
Pedestrians must not even be aware of the approaching driver before being struck.
extract from incident report attached to 2023 road safety report outlining incident where driver turning left at a signalized intersection on Hammonds Plains Rd struck a child being pushed on a bicycle, using a crosswalk
scouring through the incident data attached to our annual road safety reports, we see seniors, people with disabilities and children are often struck by this hazard, including a child being pushed by parents on a bicycle

A post on the Caught on Dashcam Nova Scotia facebook group by “PrettyLizard4020” (this is not my post, but it is an intersection I live near and am very familiar with): Hello, wondering if anyone has dashcam footage from this evening in the spryfield area. Around 9:15 l was crossing by A&W over to Williams lake rd and a car turning left that wasn't paying attention hit me. They drove away and did not ask if I was okay. I'm pretty shaken up, and I didn't get the liscense plate. Thanks
HRM knows this intersection is dangerous. It got LPIs a few years back, but that’s not enough. There are still so many turning movements by drivers, including both right on red and left on green allowed during the walk signal. It’s so incredibly, incredibly dangerous.
A graphic wishing “Good Luck Emma!” features a smiling athlete’s portrait set against a stylized Nova Scotia flag background, with Nova Scotia NDP and Claudia Chender branding.
Good luck to Emma Archibald from Fall River! She's the only Nova Scotian competing in the Milano Cortina Paralympics this year, and the first Nova Scotian to compete in Para nordic cross-country skiing at the Games. Go, Emma, go!
This would have been a dream for child me
this must be one of the most impactful decisions made in many years to reduce car use where it matters the most.
A 200% increase in transit use by students is phenomenal, strongly disputing the claim that no fare transit is not impactful enough

I don't know about this island but there are some I know with a tiny population and a very expensive looking bridge. This is a cheap place to get subsidised isolated living
the NS dream. Many of my fellow Brits also come here to seek nature and an isolated spot, becoming problematic with the costs of infrastructure, fire risks, car dependency, etc
Let's talk about the cost of collisions. A fender bender isn’t minor. A crash with injuries isn’t rare. A fatal collision costs society ~$8 million. In Canada, road crashes cost ~$36 billion every year, about $99 million every day. Safer street design isn’t expensive, crashes are #VisionZero 1/2

Around noon today at the intersection of Amesbury Gate and Larry Uteck, a pedestrian pressed the button and started crossing the crosswalk. Cars had already stopped, but one white car in the lane heading toward Kearney Lake didn’t stop or even slow down. It just drove right through. It was incredibly dangerous. Even if you didn’t notice the pedestrian light, how could you not see the cars beside you and in the oncoming lane had already stopped? My heart was pounding watching it happen. Thankfully the pedestrian was walking slowly and hadn’t reached that lane yet, or this could have ended very badly. **Just to clarify from my perspective: the pedestrian pressed the button and waited until traffic in both directions had stopped before starting to cross. In my direction, I was the second car because the first car didn’t stop and just drove through. In the opposite direction there are two lanes, and one of those lanes had already stopped. The pedestrian only started crossing after seeing the cars stop. The white car actually only came into view after the pedestrian had already decided it was safe to cross.

I'm so sorry that is a horrific experience. Might be cameras at the intersection, worth reporting to police
