The right to health means maternity care must be available, accessible, acceptable & of good quality for everyone.
Yet persistent inequalities remain, particularly for Black women and those in deprived areas.
A rights-based approach must be central to reform.

You highlighted our collaboration, lived experience work and leadership on ESCR. One response said we have an “outsized impact considering our size” - we’ll take that! 💥
Thank you for being part of our community.
💬 A huge thank you to everyone who took part in our recent survey
You described Just Fair as “small but mighty”, “punching well above its size”, and the “go-to partner on economic, social and cultural rights”.
We’re proud to make everyday rights real with you.

After years of deepening hardship, the UN’s message is clear:
The UK must use its resources to restore our social protections, tackle inequality, and protect the rights of everyone—especially those who experience discrimination and disadvantage. 6/7
The UN issued almost 100 recommendations including importantly calling for the UK to finally incorporate our economic, social and cultural rights into domestic law.
This is a clear call for change. 5/7
The UN warned that ongoing austerity continues to hit those who experience discrimination and disadvantage—particularly disabled people, migrants, women, people of colour and low-income families.
Those at the sharpest end are often experiencing violations of multiple rights. 4/7
We’re also now one year away from the UK Government’s deadline to report back to the UN on three priority issues:
• The cumulative impact of austerity
• The impact of welfare reforms
• Financial & tax policy impacts overseas
The clock is ticking. Accountability matters.
3/7
Some key areas of concern from the UN include:
🔹Rising poverty
🔹A broken social security system
🔹The housing crisis
🔹Increasing food insecurity and malnutrition
🔹Precarious and insecure work
🔹Underfunded health services

This time last year the UN Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights delivered a damning verdict on the UK’s human rights record.
They said that a decade of austerity, harmful welfare policies, and deepening inequality have eroded people’s basic everyday rights. A thread 🧵 1/7
