THREAD. I have to say that I am very disappointed with John Oliver. I finally watched his segment on police body cameras, and it was abysmal. Missed the whole point, and in the process bought into some of the worst copaganda about them.
We functioned before ICE and DHS existed. We will function after they are quite justly abolished. It does foreground a more interesting question: what should our immigration policy be, and how should it be implemented?
Political terminology in the US is intentionally vague. The center right majority faction of the Democratic Party is center-right neoliberal. The rest are frequently called ‘liberals’ or ‘progressives’ but trying to pin down what that actually means is nearly impossible.

The US expecting the world to bail it out of its war of choice is the height of imperial arrogance.

Capitalism requires population growth to keep commodity consumption growing. It requires expanding commodity consumption to keep profits growing. It requires perpetual profit growth or the financial system collapses.

So it baked from a cold start after getting half baked the day before. I expected flatbread. The camel is sighing. Oranges for scale.
