Again, in actual democracies, ministers resign all the time, under threat of a no confidence vote in the parliament. We have a system where legislative confirmation totally fails ex ante to screen out wildly unqualified people, & ex post accountability depends on a toothless extraordinary measure.

The scale of the protests in Iran are absolutely unbelievable. Hard to quantify, but I've seen some speculation that this uprising is more significant than the 2023 protests (themselves the largest challenge to the regime since it came into power in '79.)

The problem with the “Oh, do you want a cookie?” approach is that yes, people do want cookies. Their monkey brains have evolved to repeat behaviors which are rewarded and avoid repeating behaviors that are punished.
