I'm hoping a division of actual premium and general consumer grade eventually develops. Too much hyperbole in the industry currently when it comes to quality.

Guess I'm gonna try growing tobacco next year?
Guess it's almost time to start brewing the bloom fertilizer?
Ok fine, I'll spend more time working on canopies next year. Got 4 different plants that are already as tall as I am and we haven't even gotten to true summer yet.
Looks like the heat is finally here, which either means my plants are about to begin suffering or the growing is about to kick into full gear
Think I solved the mystery of what's been eating the leaves on my plants. The mystery is now dead courtesy of what I can only describe as a gardening war crime.
DIE EARWIGS DIE!
Spring grow update: Gonna add an in-between step next year when the plants chill in 1 gallon buckets for a little while before winding up in the grow bags. Still debating if I use Super Soil for that or just rejuvenated soil plus some compost and castings.
Worms doing worm things. They have a tendency to get grouchy on bin rotation day. On the plus side, population is thriving it seems.
I thought this damn bucket was dead/a failure a week ago
3 for 3 on the mushroom buckets it seems
Mushroom update. Yes that's one mushroom technically.
Things I learned today:
- If properly sealed, and by that I mean tightly covered with a trash bag, fermenting bokashi bran can last a surprisingly long time
- If you make 25 gallons of bokashi bran, you have to dry 25 gallons of bokashi bran
- Rakes are bad at spreading wet bokashi bran
Winter batch of compost came out surprisingly decent
Lion's Mane bucket update
Now that Domino has been relocated it's time to use the greenhouse for more normal stuff I guess. Well that and her 4 (soon to be 5, Muffin is still in rehab) younger siblings.
It's always an emotional day when it's time to kick one of the girls out of the greenhouse because she's now too damn tall for it. I thought I had another week before Domino needed to become a completely outdoor plant, but she appears to have grown almost a full inch overnight.
My curiosity on the topic has been satiated for now. A while back I had a beta fish tank that also doubled as a kinda "baby's first hydroponics" setup and was curious how similar the ideas were. Lot more light locking in DWC, which makes sense.
I think I'm prepared to admit that I'm bad at composting. I'd like to blame my lack of easy access to dead leaves/having to use cardboard, but I also think I'm just bad at it. Probably an impatience thing.
Gardening influencers amuse the ever loving fuck out of me
Definitely not deep diving into Deep Water Culture growing/gardening and wondering if it'd be possible to use a fishtank as an indoor planter using DWC...
Doing a little plant rehab before she goes back outside with her sisters. She started strong but got a little too much sun I think and got a little cooked.
Blue Oyster mushroom bucket grow is starting to really show. Hopefully rains help the other two catch up.
Domino (Shaman - Dutch Passion) is thriving in her little greenhouse
Sure, fuck it, let's start a secondary/reserve worm farm. What's the worst that could fucking happen?
I've accepted that it's only a matter of time/inevitable than I am someday going to try cheese making. Pretty sure I've already got like 80% of what I need to make cheese and it's just a matter of finally succumbing to the siren's call of ANOTHER hobby.
Observing all the weird that seems to come with alternative grow medium growing just kinda constantly reaffirms my ongoing decision to use dirt
Used pizza boxes and spent coffee grounds are how you fix tumbler compost sludge
Note to self: Empty the water drain on the worm bin more often
Additional note to self: Worms will not clog drain on worm bin
I don't know who needs to hear this, but there's an easier way to make LABS than capturing off rice. It's yogurt, just make some god damn yogurt and mix the whey you strain off during thickening and mix that with molasses.
